Welcome to the Mind Palace is a concept animated series about a guy whose personality traits are "personified" as little people in his head. The Mind Palace itself includes everything from memories to life hacks to random stuff that happens. His "Sides" take on adventures of their own in His head, as he tries to go about his daily life.

Idk what it is about Dreamer, but I really enjoy drawing them.

Also, this was another one of those masking shots, where I had to mask out part of the elbow and the bottom of the character in order to layer it with the table bg element.

Close-up shots are not my favorite thing in the world to draw because you have to make sure that the proportions match up everywhere, even when most of the character is cut off from the camera view.

I actually went around this by taking an existing shot of her facing the exact same angle, and then zooming in so that her face was the right size, then I used that as a reference.

Work smarter, not harder, folks! ^^

Spywi's Mind Palace

This is another one of those shots that required me to film IRL footage in order to rotoscope the motion. Thankfully there wasn't too much motion as it was just the thumb moving. That, and I was able to accurately trace the tablet for multiple shots because I have it in front of me.

Overall, one of the biggest things I learned doing this particular shot is just how much I missed doing more detailed shots, as I was able to put a bit more detail into the tablet to make it seem more 3D and reflective, especially on the edges of the buttons and the edges of the screen. ^^

I've been using this particular shot in a lot of promos/TikToks, and I'm still super proud of how this shot turned out. I feel like especially the eyes and hair are now my definitive design choices for Serenity.

This was also one of those shots where I needed to make some creative decisions, especially with how quickly I needed to complete the entire animation. Overall, I still went with the limited frame rate for the character because literally all she was doing was leaning over. There's no reason to add more frames because it's only a couple seconds of motion.

Spywi's Mind Palace

My fiancée took one look at this shot and called it the cutest thing she's ever seen.

This is another one of those layering composite shots that seems simple enough but took a lot of planning:

- Masking out the table from the background so that it stays in focus while the bg is blurred.

- Masking the head and hands so that they properly overlapped with the table

- Adding the proper shadows so that the character appeared to be naturally interacting with the table.

Overall, the drawing part was the easiest portion of this shot; the rest was the making and layering. But I'm really proud of how it turned out!

This shot was pretty quick for us to complete, mainly because most of the heavy work was already completed around the layout stage. Not much else changed outside of animating the mouth/chin, as well as keyframing the flower to float around behind Serenity's head.

I ended up cutting/masking out the arm of the chair and the pillow separately from the sofa back, in order to blur everything behind Serenity to give it a more realistic bokeh and background blur.

This one was a fascinating one to figure out. What I ended up doing was taking the couch from the background image, and mask it out so that it was able to be layered on top of the character.

So the sequence went Couch > Dreamer > Background.

I added some additional shadows and blurring throughout the scene, especially around Dreamer's shoulders, so that it gives a better sense of depth in the scene. All things considered, I'm really proud of the technical aspect of how I put this scene together.
