Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted a channel update. I have just shared plans on Patreon for upcoming changes. You can expect me to start uploading more regularly again soon. The short version is that I will be changing my reward incentives and closing commissions in order to focus on Project NeXus: Conceptual Soundtrack with less stress, and that I plan to return to a monthly upload schedule soon.

Hey everyone. It's been a while since I've made any announcements or updates. I plan to make a more detailed announcement for upcoming music plans soon both here and on my Patreon, but I wanted to let people know something specific and clear up any potential confusion.

As of about 10 minutes ago I have deactivated my X/Twitter account. This is something I had been considering for quite a while since X infamously went under new ownership and management, but I held off to see how things went. Recent changes to X's terms of service, however, finally convinced me to go through with it. Regardless of political orientation or affiliation, the recent changes appear designed to exploit artists and other content creators by using their work to train AI systems. As a whole, the platform is no longer friendly towards creators.

I rarely used X for much apart from sharing art and music, and I had too small of a following to justify keeping it around. I apologize to those who followed me on X for the abrupt decision, but I hope I still have your support on YouTube.

So to follow-up on an earlier update, I've decided to pause subscriptions on Patreon and Ko-Fi until 5/16/2024 due to my upcoming move this week to give me time to adjust to the life change without needing to think about music.

As another quick update, Project NeXus: Conceptual Soundtrack is not dead. I apologize again for the delays with this project. I have almost all the assets I need to feel comfortable continuing the music, and will hopefully be ready to return to this by the end of May.

I've been asked on several Mega Man X: Reminiscence videos if I can share my instrument samples or otherwise where to find them. I'm going to share several Dropbox links which includes the following:

- Mega Man X Soundfont - Soundfont provided by William Kage, but pitch-corrected to the key of C.
- Mega Man 8 Soundfont - Soundfont uploaded by CliffyJiffy.
- Mega Man X2 Samples - .wav samples provided by ‪@symfonikev‬ many years ago - I can't remember his original source. Note: Samples are tuned to the key of D.
- Mega Man X6 Samples - .wav samples provided by Lamda.
- Mega Man ZX Samples - .wav samples I ripped from Mega Man ZX. Loop points must be manually set. Folders separated by individual song.
- Mega Man Zero Collection Samples - .wav samples I ripped from the DS Zero collection. Loop points must be manually set. Only includes samples from Zero 1 and 2, with a small selection from 4. I never finished ripping and sorting the instruments from Zero 3 and 4. I've attempted to remove duplicate instruments.
- JBMSpaCer - A DLL sound filter which mimics SNES reverb, createdby by JoBroMedia

Please Note: I have had trouble sharing these instruments due to my computer somehow making them read-only. I think this was Google Drive's fault, so hopefully the Dropbox links work. Please let me know if there are any errors or anything missing from what is listed above.

So just to prepare in advance, I want to give notice that next month's video is probably going to be delayed and won't be available at the start of the month. I will be moving sometime within the next month - I am not exactly sure when. As a result I have a lot of packing and moving related tasks I have to to chip away at. Between this and my part-time job, it is difficult to focus on creative projects right now.

If I do not think I will be able to meet my minimum upload quota, I will temporarily suspend supporter payments on Patreon and Ko-fi. I will provide another update on this decision if it comes to that.

So a quick update regarding supporter options. You may have noticed this in my latest video upload, but in response to the building criticism against Patreon, I have decided to open a Ko-fi account as an alternative. It's bare-bones right now, but it is available as an alternative to those who do not want to use Patreon as their method of support.

I will keep both pages active - if you plan on becoming a monthly member, please use the service you prefer most. Both Ko-fi and Patreon supporters gain access to the same benefits.

There is one difference however - Ko-fi supporters have the option of donating one-time tips without becoming members. I am still working on setting up some form of benefits for those who pledge one-time donations but I'm still navigating the interface. Thank you for your patience as I figure things out!

I want to give a quick update regarding Project NeXus: Conceptual Soundtrack. We are almost finished with the remaining pixel art. I am also about half-way finished writing the flavor text for the remaining videos. Once both of these tasks are completed, I will return to composing music for Project NeXus, and will provide an updated song roadmap.

So just a note to anyone who is interested in using my music for projects. Please reach out to me through the email address listed in my About section to inquire. Please note that I have not been consistent about the types of projects I am willing to support. At the time of writing, these are my general policies:

For existing tracks:

1. If the song was made specifically for a pre-existing project, such as another creator's game, fangame, YouTube video, etc, these songs are prohibited out of fairness toward the original client or project.

2. Cover-songs that are not public domain should be used in nonprofit games, fangames, mods, and similar "casual" projects only. Use as background music in YouTube videos and livestreams and similar projects is acceptable.

3. Original songs and public domain cover-songs can be used in for-profit projects on a case-by-case basis. I will request monetary compensation and in some cases contracts for certain projects, such as films, animation, and games. I may restrict the use of certain songs if they are already being used in other projects.

4. Original songs that are commissions or Patron requests can only be used with the original client's consent.


Commissions and Requests:

1. I will not compose requests for free. I accept requests from Patrons with the Conductor's Tier, and individual commissions on a song-by-song basis.

2. If your project is a nonprofit fangame, mod, or similar creation, I am willing to negotiate pricing.


All Music:

1. Please credit me either as OmegaManZX or Tom Northrop in your project if you use my music. If you are using my music as part of a livestream, please either give me a verbal shoutout or alternatively, an on-screen credit if possible.

2. Do not use my music in projects that may be perceived as controversial, offensive, or hateful.

3. I reserve the right to approve or deny using my music in projects that I am uncomfortable being associated with on a case-by-case basis.

If you want to hire me long-term for a project, such as composing an entire soundtrack for a video game, I cannot guarantee I will be able to accept the responsibility at this time due to being committed to several long-term projects.

I want to take a moment to address something that's been brought to my attention. I am generally uninformed regarding legal issues and scandals. Especially being on the Eastern side of the US where the only legal news we seem to hear about is either the ongoing southern scandal with Alex Murdaugh or anything that has to do with Trump and the Bidens.

Going through my Patreon exit surveys, however, I was linked to a PDF of a class action lawsuit in California: the case of Stark vs. Patreon. This is a really recent legal dispute and I am not sure I completely understand the situation due to the legal jargon.

After trying to find more information online, and skimming through the document again, my extremely limited understanding is that Patreon is accused - in short - of selling subscriber information to Facebook (and possibly other social media companies). I think it has to do with how information is used regarding subscriber-exclusive videos but I'm not clear on the facts.

Because I don't understand all of the details, I urge every one of my subscribers to research this case and come to their own conclusions. On a duplicate post on Patreon, I've let my Patreon supporters know that I personally don't hold anything against them if they choose to end their pledges. I extend this to any potential new Patrons.

In the meantime, I will continue to make music videos and operate my YouTube channel and Patreon page as normal in hopes that things eventually change for the better.
