Today is Gatha Muga Chare (also known as Ghantakarna or Gathemangal) — primarily celebrated across cities and towns in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding Newar settlements in Nepal, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Banepa, Kirtipur and Dolakha.
On this day, people from the Newar community wear a handmade wrought iron ring on their finger that is believed to protect against evil spirits and ward off bad luck for the year ahead. So today, this is the ring I'm wearing that I bought near Bahati Pokhari. A small piece of tradition passed down through generations, still holding deep meaning for us. 🙏
