'A Celebration of Seeds' is taking place on Saturday, March 14, from 10am to 4pm at y Gaer and The Muse, Brecon. www.visitbrecon.org/events/a-celebration-of-seeds

The event is part of a project between Brecon Library and Black Mountain College, who are aiming to develop a seed library.

A spokesperson said: “We hope to be able to develop a network where we grow, produce and share seeds locally. We are also keen to provide information and education about growing, seed saving and what to do with what you grow. We want to connect seeds to stories and your stories about growing for example cucumber seeds smuggled from Syria or the local Brecon Black Runner Bean.”

A day of activities, stalls, presentations, and live music from Fiddle Bop is planned.
Presentations throughout the day include: 11.30am–12.30pm – The Wales Seed Hub, introducing seed production and saving; 12.45pm–1.15pm – local author and forager Adele Nozedar; and 1.30pm–2.00pm – John Crellin, local author of The Brecknockshire Flora.

A wide range of stalls will also be on site, including Welsh Wildlife, Coed Talylan Black Mountain College, bookbinder Guy Begbie, MIND Brecon, On the Verge, Our Tiny Veg Growers, Brecon Men in Sheds, Y Gaer volunteer gardeners, Seed Library engagement, and Wales Seed Hub.

Hands-on activities for visitors include designing the Brecon seed packet, planting District Nurse Runner Beans, making wildflower seed bombs, exploring the soil, and Growing Storytime sessions for adults and children throughout the day.
Music from Fiddle Bop will run between 1pm and 3pm across the two venues, while soup will be available at The Muse, and the café in y Gaer will be open for food and drinks.

If you are growing potatoes along with me this year, what varieties are you growing? Potatoes can also be grown in pots if you don't have a garden. #growyourown
