Sean James Cameron

When I started my career in television I wrote to hundreds of programmes across the BBC asking for work experience, only two people responded. One of those was Esther Rantzen. She invited me to a recording in London of her television show at the time. After a tour of the BBC building over tea she gave me advice on how to break into television and what I had to do before getting there.

While living in London I would regularly bump into her at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and she would ask how life and the career was going. By this stage she was no longer working in television but did tell me of plans to bring That's Life back to television, but then covid hit and plans changed. She spoke fondly of standing by her garden gate and listening to the birds at her home in the New Forest.

I was always be grateful for her reaching out and responding to a random letter sent by a teenager with dreams of working in television.

Thank you Esther. May you rest in peace x
