🚄 Today on Worldwide P.: three hours late.. and somehow I’m okay with it.

This Railjet departed Prague perfectly on time. By the end of the journey, it had spent 90 minutes standing still, reversed toward Bratislava, taken a route it was never supposed to use and arrived 182 minutes late.

I couldn’t even reach my planned destination, and the rest of my day in Slovakia was thrown into chaos.

So why did I leave the train impressed rather than furious?

Because this became an extraordinary example of the difference between a railway disruption and poor passenger service.

I’m using these last few days of summer for a little vacation trip, so there won’t be a new video today.

But next week’s video will be a rather special one. 😄

I’ll arrive 3 hours late, at a different station from the one originally planned, my whole day and all my connections will be turned upside down...

...and somehow, I’ll be perfectly fine with it.

🚄 Today on Worldwide P., the wrong train becomes exactly the right train for the story.

I booked this journey from Frankfurt to Leipzig specifically to experience an ICE T. Instead, an unmistakable ICE 1 arrived, the original generation that launched regular ICE service in 1991.

What begins as a 524-kilometer journey with an unexpected diversion becomes something much bigger: the story of how Germany created the ICE, why it could not simply copy France’s TGV, and how the original train remains relevant 35 years later.

History, technology, new high-speed lines, German reunification, a complete train tour and, naturally, a few operational surprises along the way.

Is this Ireland’s best train?

Today, I’m travelling in First Class from Dublin Heuston to Cork aboard Iarnród Éireann’s route-exclusive Mark IV InterCity.

Along the way, we’ll explore historic Heuston station, examine the train and its Class 201 locomotive, look at the history of Ireland’s railways, tour First Class and investigate the wonderfully complicated Limerick Junction.

Comfortable seats, a proper trolley service and approximately two and a half hours between Ireland’s two largest cities but does the experience deserve to be called the country’s best train?

One train. No changes. Brussels to Amsterdam.

That was the plan.

Then I entered Brussels-Midi and saw one rather worrying word beside my Eurocity Direct: “LIMITED.”

The train would terminate at Breda. One direct journey became three trains, two changes, a considerable detour across the Netherlands and an arrival at Amsterdam Centraal instead of Amsterdam Zuid.

Was this reasonable disruption management, or an unacceptable way to treat passengers?

Hi all!

Three trains. Two changes. A substantial detour through the Netherlands… and not even the Amsterdam station originally planned.

After a short break, Worldwide P. returns this Thursday, August 6, with a journey from Brussels to Amsterdam that became far more complicated than expected.

Will this increasingly strange journey actually work?

Hi all!

A quick channel update: there won’t be a new video this week or next. After a very eventful trip, the Worldwide P. Operations Department needs a short summer pause to work through all the footage. 😄

Weekly videos return on Thursday, August 6 and there is quite a lot ahead: new trains, older trains, delays, diversions, a three-part Slovak adventure, a journey back to the late 1970s and one rather chaotic trip to Amsterdam.

This week we travel from Namur to Brussels-Midi aboard one of Belgium’s most distinctive InterCity trains: the AM96.

Yes, the one with the strange rubber face.

It is a short trip, but there is plenty to see: Namur as a railway junction, the direct line to Brussels, Gembloux, a First Class seat tour, a little look at the AM96 itself, and then a surprisingly interesting approach into Brussels, circling the city through the north before entering the famous North-South Connection.

So… is this 1990s Belgian InterCity train still good today?

This week we travel from Belfast Grand Central to Dublin Connolly aboard the Enterprise, Ireland’s cross-border train linking Belfast and Dublin.

One island. Two capitals. One train.

This is a service with history, symbolism, onboard food, Enterprise Plus seating, a classic locomotive-hauled Enterprise set, and even a few quirks along the way... including one that meant I could not properly show Standard Class on this trip.

As usual, expect train travel, a bit of history and technology, and a proper look at what the journey is really like.

Hi all! 👋

My very eventful trip has finally come to an end... and I have a lot to show you over the coming weeks and months! 🚆

Here's a little taste of what's on the way:

🚆 Brand-new trains and classic railway icons.
🚆 A three-part mini-series following my adventures in Slovakia.
🚆 A journey back to the late 1970s aboard one of France's legendary Corail trains.
🚆 Delays, diversions, unexpected adventures, and plenty of stories that definitely didn't go according to plan!

Together we'll travel through Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, France, and Spain, discovering some fascinating railways along the way.

And, as always, every journey will come with a little bit of history and technology. 😊

One small note: during the summer there may be the occasional week without a new video while I work through all this footage. But don't worry: everything I've filmed will make its way onto the channel. There's a lot to edit, and I'm looking forward to sharing every bit of it with you!
