January 20 | St. Sebastian

St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes and soldiers, is a powerful example of unwavering faith and courage. A soldier in the Roman army, St. Sebastian used his position to share the Gospel with his fellow soldiers, converting many to Christianity.

When Emperor Diocletian discovered Sebastian’s faith, he sentenced him to death by arrows. Left for dead, Sebastian was miraculously rescued and nursed back to health by a Christian woman. Once recovered, he fearlessly returned to confront the emperor and continued to share the Gospel. For this, Sebastian was sentenced to death a second time, enduring a brutal martyrdom.

St. Sebastian’s life reminds us to remain steadfast in our faith, no matter the challenges or sacrifices we face.

Let us pray:
Almighty God, through the example of St. Sebastian, you teach us to stand firm in our faith even amidst trials. May we, like him, share the love of Christ boldly and without fear. Grant us the strength and courage to live as witnesses of your truth. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
