ಬೀchi ಅವರೇ ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ: “ಯಾವೊಬ್ಬ ತಿರುಮಲರಾಯನನ್ನಾಗಲಿ, ತಿಮ್ಮಪ್ಪನನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಇದನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ಗೆಳೆಯರ ಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ಹಿರಿಕಿರಿಯರ ಕಿರಿಹಿರಿತನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡು ಕೇಳಿದ ಚೇಷ್ಟೆಗಳಿಗೆಲ್ಲ - ಪಾಪ! ತಿಮ್ಮನನ್ನೇ ನಾಯಕನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಒಡ್ಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ತಿಮ್ಮನ ನಗು ದೇಹವಾದರೆ ಆ ನಗುವಿನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹುದುಗಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ನೋವೇ ಜೀವ, ಅದನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸದಿದ್ದರೆ ದೊರೆಯುವುದು ತಿಮ್ಮನ ಹೆಣ ಮಾತ್ರ."

ತಿಂಮನ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ನಡೆ-ನುಡಿ, ಮೊನಚು ಮಾತು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯ ಅಂತಃಕರಣ ಇರುವ ಪಾತ್ರ. ಅವನು ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೇ ಇರುವ ದಡ್ಡ-ಚತುರ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವ-ಕೆಟ್ಟವನ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ.

Who exactly is Thimma?

As Bichi himself explains, “I haven’t based this character on any particular person. I’ve made Thimma the protagonist of all the antics I’ve seen and heard in children’s games, groups of friends, and the quirks of people young and old. If Thimma’s laughter is the body, the pain hidden behind that laughter is its soul. If you fail to recognise it, all you’re left with is Thimma’s corpse.”

Thimma is a one-of-a-kind character, known for his quirky ways, sharp wit and deep humanity. He is a mix of the fool and the clever one, the good and the bad — a little bit of all of us.

G. K. Venkatesh was one of the true musical legends of Kannada cinema. His music gave Kannada film songs a distinct identity and took them to audiences far beyond Karnataka.

Known for constantly experimenting with sound and composition, he created songs that continue to live on even decades later. Over his remarkable career, he composed music for more than a hundred Kannada films. He also played an important role in encouraging Dr. Rajkumar to sing as a playback singer.

Today, on G. K. Venkatesh’s 99th birth anniversary, we celebrate the man and the music with a special carousel.
