The new Hush Classical is a good effort and sounds fine. The two consistent complaints are how far off the mark it is when it arrives in terms of requiring a set up. The second issue I see is with the dimensions itself. While I am all for revising and improving the feel of the classical guitar to which end I have have conducted many experiments nonetheless the classical guitarist aiming to played amplified gigs or do some late night practice does require at least an instrument with the right nut width, a flat radius and the right spacing otherwise is of not much use to us.

Tonight Nov 14th at 7:00 🕖 mwe got the SIU Studio Jazz Orchestra playing at Hangar 9, Carbondale Illinois. I will be conducting and performing some new arrangements.

Sunday, Nov 17th we have MAGIQ Illinois Guitar Quartet performing for the SIU International Guitar Festival at 3:00 pm at OBF Recital Hall at SIU Carbondale.

Here are some recurring questions I thought I shared along with my thoughts

1) Why don’t you teach on YouTube?

My teaching happens elsewhere, colleges, conferences and master classes. I am an associate professor of music at Southern Illinois University. While I value online resources and enjoying teaching my role is slightly different. As a professor I research music. I perform, produce recordings, arrangements, instructional books and music tech based products as my publishing. I am engaged in finding ways to advance the field and this is a venture of which my students are part. Their apprenticeship starts by part taking in the process instead of the reproduction of a prescribed formula. That being said if anyone is interested as we do have good scholarships.

2) Where do you play?

No fixed place and sadly less and less where I live. I mainly travel to perform and while I enjoy it I do miss the days I could bring a bunch of stuff to a gig and see how would it all work out. When you are traveling you need small and portable rigs that can function in different scenarios.

3) What advice would you give anyone seeking to improve as a musician?

Don’t waste time winging it. Look for the best teacher in the area and go study with them. Work on technique, repertoire, music and reading and musicianship. Avoid the guys that want to charge you to jam with them.

So there is no @Boss Katana MK3 at NAMM nor in the horizon? Boss has consistently delivered quality products however as with other products in their line there are very few firmware updates and support.

What should have been addressed that has not so far not even on the Artist line of the amp?

1) ability to load 3rd party IRs

2) Stereo Delays (left and right independent delays with options, at least modulated, analog and digital)

3) a physical stereo 1/4 output jack on the amp
4) movable blocks (maybe far fetched but it would be nice)

While the stereo link is a good option and it should be there for the most no one wants to have to drag a second amp around. Being able to go direct and have the stereo alternative is more practical.

No one wants to haul around the heavier versions of this line such as the artist cab. It is a nice thing to have if you are traveling and the back line is provided however nowadays most working pros want to have a modeling option to avoid bad surprises which is why this type of rig is more appealing to those that play locally.

While these are small changes it is the difference between a novelty and a professional grade product. I cannot stress enough the importance of at least having a stereo out other than the USB and having an IR loader. These are also the smaller things to sort out. They have practical, easy to use product that can deliver amazing tones at a great price, why not got all the way?

What is the point of crafting these elaborate patches for it to fall apart by assigning a subpar speaker simulation at the end of it? 🤦🏻‍♂️
