African Lion 🦁 (Panthera leo) One of the most widely recognised animal symbols in human culture, the lion has been extensively depicted in sculptures and paintings, on national flags, and in contemporary films and literature. The lion inhabits grasslands, savannahs and shrub lands. It is usually more diurnal than other wild cats. It adapts to being active at night and at twilight. During the Neolithic period, the lion ranged throughout Africa and Eurasia from Southeast Europe to India but it has been reduced to fragmented populations in sub-Saharan Africa and one population in western India. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the #IUCNRedList since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated protected areas, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern.
From wonders of Africa - Mt Kilimanjaro (Highest peak of Africa), Amboseli National Park (Home of largest herds of African Elephants), Serengeti (The endless plain in Swahili), Masai Mara (Masai tribe the cattle rearers), Lemek conservancy in Maasai mara and the Ngorongoro crater etc. The majestic landscapes of Masai Mara and Serengeti once seen will be a lifetime memory.
Meet The Maasai: One of Africa's most famous tribes. They are recognised for their skills as formidable warriors, excellent cattle herders, dancing (their famous Maasai Jumping Dance ), singing, and craftsmanship. Kenya is an iconic African safari destination and home to the Maasai tribe.
#AfricaTour For a wildlife manager, Africa offers the epitome of management and plethora of diversity with its large mammals in both size and population and advanced conservation measures along with carnivores. Some memories from meeting wildlife officials from Kenya Wildlife Service KWS and Tanzania National Park authorities TANAPA during the recent Africa Tour.
