Is shimmer ink worth the hassle?

Personally (Janéa), I think shimmer inks are 100% worth the effort, but they’re definitely an acquired taste. I absolutely love them, but I stick to certain pens since extra-glam inks can clog up my feed. A TWSBI ECO with a broad or stub nib makes using shimmer inks sooo easy to use. I also love using the Magna Carta Mag 600! Its natural line variation is already gorgeous, but add shimmer and your writing becomes extra fancy and delightfully bougie.

Do you collect pens for the actual writing experience or just the aesthetics?

Personally, I (Janéa) lean more toward aesthetics, but if it's a terrible writing experience, I'll never pick up the pen again. For example, I got this absolutely gorgeous pen for the low, but as soon as I tried to write with it, the feedback drove me insane. I ended up switching to my Sailor TUZU immediately!!! Although the TUZU may not be the most gorgeous pen ever created, the writing experience is top notch. But if I were able to get my hands on a TWSBI ECO in Serpentine, I would switch from the TUZU because the ECO's design is more my preference. So, aesthetics are a big deal when I'm looking to buy, but a bad writing experience is a true dealbreaker for me.

Favorite fountain pen filling system?

I (Janéa) love a good piston filler because I love having a large ink capacity. But, not enough to eyedropper fill. I make wayyyyyy too much of a mess.

Help us settle a debate: Are translucent pens like the Pilot Custom 823 and Platinum Preppy really demonstrators? Or should that title be reserved for pens with crystal-clear barrels like the TWSBI ECO or Monteverde MP1?
