What if just what if our leaders left Parliament and spent a whole month in the villages?
Not to campaign. Not for headlines. But to live. To learn. To listen.
Imagine it: Honourable Members of Parliament waking up to the sound of roosters not sirens. Fetching water from the same tap the community uses. Waiting in line at the clinic like everyone else. Eating pap and beans cooked over a fire. Getting caught in a power cut… and realising it’s not just load shedding it’s life shedding.
Now just breathe that in.
July. A month in the villages. Not in five-star boardrooms, but in one-room homes. No motorcades. Just walking shoes. No policy documents. Just people.
What could they learn?
How would it feel to see a child sharing a desk with two others in an overcrowded school? To speak with a grandmother who still hopes for running water before she turns 90? To play soccer with barefoot kids whose dreams are bigger than their township walls?
Would decisions be different… if leaders understood the dust before they designed the road? Would promises sound different… if they echoed from a shack instead of a chamber?
This isn’t an attack. It’s a gentle question. A respectful challenge. A loving nudge.
Not from the media. Not from the opposition. From us the people. With love. And peace.
We’re not saying, “Fix everything overnight.” We’re saying, “Walk with us.” We’re not saying, “You don’t care.” We’re saying, “Come and see why we do.”
Because leadership isn’t just laws. It’s presence. It’s proximity. It’s stepping out of the speech — and into the street.
So… what if this July, Parliament decided to go down?
Down to the ground. Down to the roots. Down to the places the cameras don’t reach… but hope still does.
Wouldn’t that be something?
We’re not asking for a miracle. We’re asking for a mattress on the floor, A meal by the fire, And a moment of truth.
Dear Parliament, July is coming. Will you go down?
