Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, the queen consort under the late King Bhumibhol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and the mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand (Rama X) has died at the age of 93.

Born in Pathum Wan Royal Lodge of Bangkok in 1932, Princess Sirikit is the member of the Kitiyakara noble family, a branch of the ruling Chakri Dynasty of Thailand. She was raised by her maternal grandparents while her parents was abroad working at Thai embassy in Washington DC. She resides at Deves Palace, near the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. At age 4, she attended the kindergarten college at Rajini school, but because of World War II and Bangkok was bombed many times, it made her travel unsafe. So, she moved to Saint Francis Xavier Convent School, near the palace to finish her secondary level.

After the war, she moved to the UK with her father Prince Nakkhatra Mangala, who became a diplomat. There, she learned to play piano, speaking English and French. She frequently moved to many other countries, including Denmark and France. There, she met King Bhumibhol Adulyadej (Rama IX), who was related to her, since both were descendants of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). Bhumibhol had ascended to the throne and studying in Lausanne, Switzerland. After the king was hospitalized after an automobile accident, Princess Sirikit visited him often, a quiet engagement was followed in 1949 and they married on April 1950, she later received the Order of the Royal House of Chakri and became queen.

After the coronation on May 1950, both the King and Queen went back to Switzerland to continue their studies annd returned to Thailand in 1952. In 1956, while the King entered the Buddhist monkhood, she became the queen regent. Throughout the decades she and the King would go on the grand tour around the world; to build the friendship with multiple nations. Queen Sirikit is known to be part of the most beautiful diplomat of the modern era, since both King and Queen always dressed elegantly while abroad for a long time, making Queen Sirikit the most loveliest consort in the world.

After the grand tour of the royal couple, she and the King would attend a long-term initiatives planned by the king on developing the country into a modern era. For more than four decades, she frequently travelled alongside the king visiting people living in the remote Thai villages far away, promoting development projects for the rural areas, where the folks regarded the monarchy as divine, even the dam in the Northern's Uttaradit Province was named in her honour. In 1976, her birthday of 12th of August became the national Mother's Day, she was also the honorary president of Thai Red Cross. After the death of King Rama IX in 2016 and their son succeeding him as King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), her formal title became Queen Mother.

On October 24 2025, Queen Sirikit passed away peacefully at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital of Bangkok at the age of 93. She had battled with multiple health problems for many years, including stroke and blood infection during her last months. King Rama X graciously granted permission for members of the Royal Family and the Royal Household to mourn for a period of one year from the date of death. She was survived by her son King Rama X, three daughters, twelve grandchildren (including Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, the current heir to the throne) and six great-grandchildren.
