Very hot take: Brown dwarf stars should be classified as planets.
My reason is because, just like planets, brown dwarves lack the mass to sustain hydrogen fusion. They also have very complex atmospheres similar to gas giants & brown dwarves have minimal luminosities. Both bodies also share very similar thermal evolutions.
