Join us today as we head over to the Rodman Dam Spillway to troll for some Slab Crappie! This is our "go to" spot when the wind is too strong for our Jon Boat out on the open water of the big lakes. A great way to celebrate your loved ones in heaven is by giving back.

We did this last year to honor my mom, who is in heaven, as well as Hollis’s mom and dad. For us, it made their memory even sweeter, and it brought us happiness knowing that, because they were such loving and giving people, we could do a small memorial for them here on earth.

Many seniors don’t have anyone, and those on Medicare often don’t have the funds to buy personal items like socks, sweaters, hairbrushes, or toothbrushes. So I like to add some when I can. Last year, I bought the Sam’s Club special—extra-thick blankets for around $14.95. It made me smile imagining someone in a cold nursing home being wrapped in a warm blanket.


The cards are available at the Palatka, Florida Walmart, and the gifts are due by December 19, 2025. The address to send them to is listed on the cards. If your Walmart doesn’t have a Christmas tree for seniors, you might consider asking if they can start one.

We will be launching Pre-Dawn and making the run to our Waypoint before sunrise in an effort to get ahead of the early morning bite. The Cooler Fall Temperatures have finally arrived in Florida. The water temperature in our favorite lake (Lake Lochloosa) is gradually falling each week. Thank You, Lord, for My Momma

It has been a hard year as we mark the anniversary of my Momma going to heaven.

Thank you to all my homestead family for your prayers during this time — and to the special friends who visited, brought seafood boils, called often, sent gifts, and even had their families come from out of town. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful families and friends.

During the first six months, I spent most of my days feeling depressed — eating lots of junk food and watching Asian dramas. Then I found out that I was starting the early stages of fatty liver disease. That was my wake-up call. I began eating right, exercising, and thanking God for the precious time I got to spend with my Momma.

We are thankful that God made it possible for her to live independently while still being close to us. We were able to visit two to three times a week and talked almost every day.

I’m especially grateful that I was able to stay with my Momma during her hospital stays — even through the seven different hospitals we went to starting in February 2024.

When we learned that the cancer had returned, she spent her last six months with me and Hollis, and we spoiled her rotten. She went from our loving hands straight into God’s.

We are deeply thankful for the amazing nurses and doctors who so lovingly took care of Momma — their compassion, patience, and dedication brought us great comfort during such a difficult time.


Momma, we still miss you and always will — until we meet again in heaven.
