Dr. Md Imran, Vice President, DMA J&K and Additional Secretary, AIMSA J&K, Welcomes Enhancement of Intern Stipend to ₹25,000 Per Month

Dr. Md Imran, Vice President of the Democratic Medical Association (DMA), Jammu & Kashmir, and Additional Secretary of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), J&K, has welcomed the Government of Jammu & Kashmir’s decision to enhance the monthly stipend of MBBS/BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), from ₹12,300 to ₹25,000 per month.

The decision, formalised through Government Order No. 747-JK(HME) of 2026, dated October 21, 2026, and effective from October 1, 2026, marks a significant step towards recognising the dedication, hard work, and vital contribution of medical interns to the healthcare system of Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr. Md Imran expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the Health and Medical Education Department for considering the longstanding concerns of medical interns. He emphasised that the enhancement represents not only financial relief but also recognition of the responsibilities, sacrifices, and essential services rendered by interns in hospitals across the Union Territory.

He further stated that consistent representation, collective advocacy, and sustained efforts by members of the medical fraternity are essential to bringing meaningful change. He reaffirmed his commitment to raising the genuine concerns of medical students and interns and working towards better working conditions, timely stipend payments, and improved welfare measures for young doctors.

Dr. Md Imran added, “This is a welcome and encouraging decision for medical interns across Jammu & Kashmir. The demand was about dignity, fairness, and recognition of the immense responsibilities shouldered by interns every day. I sincerely thank the Government and the Health and Medical Education Department for this positive step. We will continue to advocate for the rights, welfare, and professional interests of medical interns and the wider medical fraternity.”

He concluded by expressing hope that this decision would pave the way for further constructive dialogue between the government and medical representatives to address the remaining concerns of interns and strengthen the healthcare system of Jammu & Kashmir.

Punjab Police Inspector Arrested in Ferozepur With 3.35 Kg Heroin, Six Pistols | JK News9 | Journalist Mukesh

**Ferozepur, Punjab:** A Punjab Police Inspector posted with the Counter Intelligence wing has been arrested in Ferozepur on allegations of involvement in drug trafficking, police said.

The accused, identified as **56-year-old Baldev Singh**, was allegedly found carrying **3.35 kg of heroin** at the time of his arrest. Police also recovered **six pistols, four magazines and 17 cartridges** from his possession.

According to police, an **i20 car and six mobile phones** were also seized during the operation. The recovered drugs, weapons and other items have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

A case has been registered against the Inspector under relevant provisions of the **Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act**.

Investigators are now probing the alleged source of the heroin and weapons, their intended destination and whether the accused had been involved in the alleged illegal activities for an extended period.

The **Ferozepur SSP said the accused is suspected of having links with Pakistan**. Further questioning and investigation are underway to establish the full network, if any, behind the alleged drug and arms trafficking.
