Epson ET-8550 firmware update info
Found out a bit more about this update. Nothing huge and no reason not to install it
Mostly minor fixes to correct general reliability and even things like a spelling mistake in a display.
Good to see that even after 5 years such things are still being addressed. Remember that there is a limit to what can be 'fixed' in firmware.

Detail from last post showing M31 [r] and the faint smudge of M33 [l[
Very much a 'does this work' test. I'll be in Northumberland next week, so darker skies...
Edited after I mixed up M31 and 32 ;-)

I'm testing a new manual focus 12mm f/2.8 lens on my Canon R5 [initial review for its launch in a few days] but here is a shot of last night's sky from our new back garden. It's been 50+ years [chilled film days...] since I tried any astrophotography.
M31 is clearly visible and even M33 is visible in the full size image
16x 4 second exposures [f/2.8 1600 ISO] Stacked with SLS, sharpened with Nik Sharpener to bring out structure.
Not bad for 1.5miles from the centre of Leicester

OK what is the best way to get B&W prints from an et-8550?
As ever, it depends...
Paper choice is important. If your 'chosen' paper doesn't perform quite so well, use another one, or a printer with all pigment inks [Pro-310 or P700]
The 8550 is still my 'best buy' for people getting into printing, but if you want top notch black and white on a huge range of papers then you are going to have to spend more, both on a printer, and definitely ink costs...
Now this doesn't surprise me... but it's not what some want to hear.
Video on the subject to come...

Corfield WA67 update
The multiple aperture scales on the Super Angulon 47/5.6 on the Corfield WA67
There are two scales with a pointer on opposite sides of the lens, and then a third added on white paper.
Ignore my wrong comments in the video, about a built in filter - there needs to be an external one
