I’m a filmmaker, musician, and beekeeper who spends weekends at a remote-ish off-grid cabin — turning it into a home, studio, apiary, and testing ground for solar tech, off-the-grid gadgets, and the occasional dumb idea.

The honey bees that survived the bear attack earlier this summer worked super hard, providing us with a small but mighty honey harvest. The neighbour and I had a taste from the raw honey comb yesterday, and it's a very special crop - almost minty. This is from the basswood trees in our area, which had an excellent flowering season this year. Just a reminder that a new off grid cabin video will be posted on Thursday, and it's one that I had a LOT of fun editing so I hope you dig it. Cheers, Joe. #offgrid #offgridliving

Woot! Welcome new subscribers!! Thanks for all the comments on my last video about using off grid power at the tiny cabin. I'm just finishing up a slightly longer-form video, where I spend TEN DAYS OFF GRID, showing off my system, while gallantly attempting to stay COMPLETELY OFFLINE (no phone, no internet, no social media - a digital detox) for ten days. Spoiler alert - it doesn't go exactly as planned. Video will be posted next week. In the mean time, over the next few days I''m going to share a few more video shorts from a Richard Proenneke satire video that I was never quite brave enough to post in full.
