Here we go again.
I have been critiqued again by you-know-who, and honestly, I didn’t even want to respond because you all know that his critique is always over the top. But I felt I owed an explanation to my followers/subscribers.
Captain Obvious pointed out that I was wrong to say the plural of dozen is dozen. So, if dozen is not the plural form of dozen, and the plural form is dozens, we can say “2 dozens donuts,” right?
The answer is no. What he fails to tell you is that dozens is actually not exactly the plural form of dozen meaning 12 of something. It is a plural noun that is always used in plural form, and it means a lot of something. → For example, dozens of people.
But you don’t have to trust me—you can simply check the Oxford Dictionary. → As you can see here, the plural of dozen (meaning 12 of something) is also dozen. → Check out these examples: 2 dozen eggs / 3 dozen red roses.
However, dozens as a plural noun means many or a lot of people or things and is always used in plural form. → Look at these examples:
I’ve been there dozens of times.
We’ve interviewed dozens of people.
So maybe, rather than nitpicking and stating the obvious, respond to my video where I pointed out the obvious mistakes that you made.
Thanks.
