Circuits of the past

Are you a nostalgic set motorsport fan and circuit lover? Then this is the channel for you! Here you find videos of the motor racing circuits of the past, and sometimes of the present too. I upload new videos on Friday.

My name is Herman Liesemeijer, I live in the Netherlands in a town called Heerenveen. My fascination for lost race tracks started after a visit to the abandoned circuit of Nivelles-Baulers in Belgium in 1998. In 2003 I founded the MSM Group "Circuits of the past", which became a real website in 2008. This website is dedicated to the lost racing circuits. Through the years I visited many old race tracks.

Since 2014 I'm focusing on making videos. In 2018 I bought a drone to make spectacular aerial footage and I started with live vlogs.

I hope you enjoy my videos and subscribe to my channel.

🚁 Members Exclusive Video – Almost Lost My Drone

I’ve just released a Members Only video that takes you behind the scenes of a high-risk drone flight over the abandoned Opel-Rennbahn in Germany — Opel’s historic test track from the 1920s–1930s.

This is raw, unfiltered footage with my live commentary, including a tense moment where the drone nearly crashes into a tree while flying on auto-pilot. For a few seconds, I genuinely thought it was gone.

If you love:
• Historic and abandoned race circuits
• Raw POV drone flights
• Motorsport history told from the field
• Real moments where things almost go wrong

…then this video is for you.

🎟️ Channel members get access to this video and many more exclusive documentaries, raw flights, and behind-the-scenes content that never appears on the public channel.

Circuits of the past

You may have noticed that Circuits of the Past is currently running a pre-recorded livestream.

This continuous stream is intended as a winter break feature, allowing motorsport history to remain available while new projects are being prepared behind the scenes. The stream runs 24/7 and currently consists of 36 videos, played in random order.

Every Friday, the stream is refreshed with a new theme and a different selection of videos. This makes it easier for new viewers to discover earlier work, and for long-time followers to revisit these stories in a more relaxed, background-friendly way.

New standalone videos are in development and will return once they are ready.

Thank you for watching and for supporting the channel.

Back to Our Roots – Classic Circuits Await

This year, we’re returning to what we do best: exploring the heart and soul of motorsport history. Our focus will shift fully back to historic, abandoned, and legendary circuits — the tracks where racing legends were made, not the modern F1 venues.

Expect quality over quantity, deep dives, and stories that take you beyond the asphalt — into the forgotten corners, iconic straights, and hidden tales of motorsport’s past.

We can’t reveal everything just yet… but if you loved our journeys through the circuits of yesteryear, you’re in for some unforgettable rides.

Stay tuned. The classics are calling.

Still enjoying the holiday break? 🎄
Here’s a bit of festive motorsport nostalgia for Boxing Day.

This year, Santa skipped the reindeer and went old-school — pulled along by classic 1950s Formula 1 cars. A small tribute to the golden age of racing, when speed, bravery and character mattered more than polish.

Wishing all motorsport fans a Merry Christmas and relaxing holidays, filled with memories, history and the love of racing — past and present.
