John is back in Ireland working on our little cottage in Donegal… and somehow, in just a few hours, he managed to surprise me again 😂

I honestly don’t know how he gets so much done so quickly… every time I leave him alone with the cottage something changes 👀😂

After sitting empty for over 25 years, it finally feels like this little home is starting to come back to life again 💛

I still can’t quite believe how much has been done already…

When we first came back to the cottage, it felt like there was SO much to do — and there still is — but looking back at these last few weeks, it’s amazing how quickly things can change.

I didn’t expect this trip to feel like this…

15 hours on the road.
A ferry crossing.
From Donegal to England… where John dropped me off —
and then turned straight around and drove all the way back to Ireland the next day.

He brought me over…
and while he was there, picked up a window for the cottage.

It sounds simple… but it really wasn’t.

And John… honestly, I don’t know how he does it sometimes.

Spring in Donegal 🇮🇪

John has started a new work contract — it’s what we need to move into the next stage of the cottage.

So I took a quiet walk… and everywhere you look, it feels like a fresh start.

Lambs, calves, flowers — and a new phase beginning for us too 💛

This little cottage in Donegal, Ireland belonged to John’s granny and sat empty for more than 25 years.

Slowly we’ve been bringing it back to life… one job at a time.

But this week feels different.

After months of insulation, roof work, beams, and clearing rooms full of dust, we’re finally reaching the stage where the next big part of the renovation begins.

And standing there looking at it today… we both had the same thought.

Sometimes the best pieces in an old house are the ones already there.

Sunday is usually our day of rest at the cottage…

but this time our “day off” turned into a 5-mile charity walk with the local community instead 😅

And of course the weather decided to give us sun, rain, hail and wind all in the same walk.

I’ve planned out our bedroom and John’s already started bringing it to life… including building the wardrobe 💪

It’s still very much a work in progress, but it’s starting to feel like a proper room now.

While I was back in England… John was in Ireland on his own working on the cottage.

And when an Irish handyman is left alone with tools… you never quite know what he might get up to 😂

Walls are changing, rooms are taking shape, and there may be a few surprises waiting for me when I arrive back in Donegal.
