Look who decided to make an appearance yesterday after we cleared the top of his tank of floating plants.
I think this little Betta Imbellis needs a new home down in the fish garage.
Hmmmmm now to think of a new aquascape.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

‪@alexb_aquatics‬ new Corydoras shallow tank in ‪@practicalfishkeeping‬ is amazing and shows exactly what can be done.

I remember seeing photos of catfish swimming along the edges of tropical rivers and this captures that perfectly! I've definitely gained a bit of inspiration for my shallow that needs to be set up again soon.

As you can see in the pictures we had it setup with a Riverbank vibe and a tree growing out of the top. We had to shut the tank down when we built the fish garage but the tree now lives in the top of our cichlid pond, although it did stress out and drop most of its leaves.

You can read all about Alex's set up in the February issue of Practical Fishkeeping magazine. Or do what I do and get the digital version as well so you get access to loads of back issues to read whenever you want.

Have you watched the new video on our ‪@oase_global‬ Highline aquarium?
We added quite a few new fish and if you have watched it what did you think of them?
One definitely divided opinions!

I reckon these are one of the most useful aquarium inhabitants!
The very hard working Amano shrimp!
As long as you don't have anything that will snack on them, they are a brilliant addition to help maintain your aquarium!
Remember though as with any animal in your tank they will need some food of their own to keep them thriving.

Settling the debate from the new video!

If you had to pick one of these for a starter build, which one is going in the tank?
I just released a full guide on some of the best beginner saltwater fish to help you make the right decision.

You can go give the video a watch to see what you think!

I’m curious where you all stand on this!

I get asked about this all the time. "Matt, why is the water brown? Is it dirty?"
I’ll be the first to joke about it I’m always telling ‪@alexb_aquatics‬ he needs to shove some carbon in his filters to clear up those murky tanks! But all jokes aside, I’m actually a huge fan of the botanical look.

When you add those leaves and seed pods, you aren't just changing the color of the water; you’re changing the vibe of the tank. Seeing the fish actually use the leaf litter to hide, forage, and explore brings out a side of them you just don't see in a sterile setup.
A lot of the fish we love come from these blackwater habitats anyway so to them, that tea is exactly what home feels like. It might look dirty to some, but to the fish, it’s natural.

I heard a very good saying that I think could apply to the fishkeeping world a lot and that is "don't yuck someone else's yum"

Can you see it???
Quite a few of you asked how the shell dweller tank was doing? In short it's doing very well and I think we need to do an upgrade soon.

Up close with my toadstool coral is seriously one of the coolest sights in our reef tank.
Those tiny “flowers” aren’t just for show each one is a living polyp with its own mouth. They extend the tentacles into the water, capturing drifting plankton and nutrients to feed the colony.
It’s wild to think that every single one you see is actively working to grow and sustain the coral. Nature never stops amazing me!

You know it's a cold one when you grab the fish net and it comes out in a block of ice!
.
We've been out filming some of the ponds today for an upcoming winter pond video. My word it was so cold, I kept losing what part I was meant to be talking about. Hopefully it will make sense once it's edited hahaha.
