Did you know downtown Spokane once had its own international district? Just 3 blocks long, Trent Alley was home to a rich mix of cultures—mostly Chinese and Japanese families. In this Northwest Profiles, we revisit this forgotten neighborhood through the eyes of descendants who grew up there.

We’re sad to share that due to a recent decision by the U.S. Department of Education, federal funding for the Ready To Learn initiative has ended early. This impacts PBS stations nationwide, including KSPS PBS. As a result, we’re unable to offer our free summer camps this year. We know how much these camps have meant to local families, and we’re truly sorry we won’t get to learn and play together this summer.
For over 30 years, Ready To Learn has helped us bring trusted PBS KIDS content and community programming to children across our region. While this funding loss is significant, our commitment to early learning remains strong. We want you to know: KSPS PBS is still here for you. Our commitment to early learning hasn’t changed and we’ll continue providing free, quality PBS KIDS programming on TV, online, and in our community whenever possible.
