Ratha Saptami, falling on February 3, 2026, is celebrated as the birthday of the Sun God (Surya Jayanti), marking the day Lord Surya began enlightening the world. It symbolizes the start of spring and the northward journey of the sun (Uttarayana), bringing warmth, longer days, and health. 

Key Reasons for Ratha Saptami on February 3, 2026:

Surya Jayanti: It marks the birth of Lord Surya, who was born to sage Kashyapa and Aditi.

The Chariot Festival: According to mythology, on this day, the Sun God began driving his chariot—led by Aruna and drawn by seven horses representing the seven colors of light—towards the Northern Hemisphere.

Significance of the Day (Saptami): It is celebrated on the seventh day (Saptami) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Magha, which falls between late January and mid-February.

Arogya Saptami: Devotees believe that taking a bath during the early morning (Arunodaya) on this day cleanses sins and promotes good health, earning it the nickname "Arogya Saptami".

Seasonal Shift: The day marks the end of intense winter and the beginning of spring, encouraging agricultural prosperity and warmer weather. 

Devotees typically offer prayers to the Sun God with Arghyadan (pouring water), light lamps, and prepare special food, such as pongal, cooked in sunlight in a mud pot.
