Celebrating Appalachia

Welcome! Glad you stopped by and hope you stop by often as I celebrate my Appalachian Heritage.

My name is Tipper Pressley. I was born and raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I’ve always had a great love and appreciation for my rich Appalachian culture and heritage. In March of 2008 I started the Blind Pig & the Acorn blog in an effort to preserve and celebrate Appalachia.

This channel will continue my endeavor of celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the Appalachian Mountains.

NO LIVE THIS WEEK - We've had heavy rain all day as I know many of you have. Our internet has been spotty because of the weather so there will not be a live tonight.

I did want to share a few things with you 😊

We have mugs back in stock in the Etsy store here: www.etsy.com/shop/BlindPigAndTheAcorn As well as cookbooks, the wonderful book about Opal Corn Myers, and Pap and Paul's Songs of Christmas cd.

The songs Paul shared last week were great!

1,000 Miles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW6iO... For Dwight Yoakam's birthday. One of my all time favorite songs from Yoakam 😊

Crown of Thorns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSJ9x... Featuring Paul and our cousin Maria.

Granny made it to her appointments last week. She had a bladder infection which I was hoping might have been causing some of her pain, but even with a round of antibiotics she's about the same. Thank you for praying for her and for all the cards and things you've sent her. She is brightened by them all!

I've been praying for your requests and I know you've been praying one for another. Isn't that a beautiful statement for us all!

I hope each of you are well and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! See you this week in the videos and hopefully next week in a live 😊

We appreciate you all and keep you in our prayers!

Every good wish,

Tipper

Here's a video we did this time last year that you might enjoy: https://youtu.be/sB0ul5Oz7GY We did film a Sunday night video so be on the lookout for it in a couple of days.

Hope you have a great week! We appreciate you.

Sharing a photo of Granny holding me many years ago here in Wilson Holler and wishing all the mothers biological or by love's adoption a very happy Mother's Day! Your families, friends, and the world are better off for having you!

Happy Resurrection Day

Legend of the Dogwood

At the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood had reached the size of the mighty oak tree. So strong and firm was the wood that it was chosen as the timber for Jesus’ cross.

To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the dogwood. While nailed upon it, Jesus sensed this, and in his compassion said. “Because of your pity for my suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used for a cross. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent, and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross–two long and two short petals.

“In the center of the outer edge of each petal will be the print of nails. In the center of the flower, stained with blood, will be a crown of thorns so that all who see it will remember.”

(Taken from an old postcard that was in Miss Cindy’s Grandmother’s collection.)

Here’s some of my favorite songs for Easter.
