My reflections on a movie from a book inspired by Shakespeare’s play “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark” called, “Hamnet”.

I’d wept seeing the movie, and on the one-hour drive home.

The elemental relationship within Shakespeare’s universe, the guttural silence of fate, the humus ever present in “Hamnet’s” imaginal had undone me.
I watched my father buckle for the loss of his son, my older brother.

I watched my mother march forward for the loss of her son, my younger brother.

Neither seemed whole again to me.

Rather half spirit, half human; still making the artifice of reality, yet only partly there until death found them too.

I wished they could have seen a play written in honor of their grief. A play played by actors sad, for as Carl Sandburg opined, all actors are sad.

And all actors are us comprised of mirror neurons, free will, stardust and gold.’

“Remember me.”

~ said by the ghost of the King in The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare, Act 1, Scene 5

I'm sure many of you are titrating the news.

It is hard in every which way: the mass murder of children in a primary school in southern Iran, the mass murder of Iranian sailers operating an unarmed frigate off the coast of Sri Lanka - miles away from the fighting, the mass cover up of a President's rape and physical abuse of a minor.

And we take off our hats and bow our heads for the now 7 U.S. service folk who have given their lives to this illegal and abhorrent "excursion."

The Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, speaks as if he is playing "Call of Duty", countless elected Republicans sit in a vegetative state, the press secretary asserts that a draft has not been ruled out by “her boss.”

Meanwhile, boats are still being attacked in waters near the US., acid rain drops over Tehran, some of the “elite” continue to hoard and foment quiet death.

Titrate, yes. Do. It is important for self-care and clarity. Be. But also act, and trust that walking for peace is an act, practicing tonglen is an act, checking on your friends is an act.

You may also have communication, research, sign-making skills that could be helpful. So much can shift via your intention and conscious actions.

Yes, it seems hopeless sometimes: the dark triad personalities laid upon institutions exhaust us in their lies, false flags and financial abuse.

We have our inner peace, however. We possess intellect, compassion, sense of humor and stick-to-it-ness, and we must show up for this moment, even if we’d prefer not to do so.

We must. The great turning relies on our ability to steer the ship, to have each other’s backs and to hold each other in love and light.

It is our only hope.
