The rooting reflex is a primitive neonatal reflex that helps a newborn find food. When the babyโ€™s cheek or the corner of the mouth is touched, the infant turns the head toward the stimulus and opens the mouth, trying to latch on.

It appears at birth, is important for breastfeeding, and normally disappears by about 3 to 4 months of age. Its absence in a newborn or persistence beyond infancy can suggest neurological dysfunction.

Dear Doctor Xydi family. Today let's share with you a very rare rare Medical Case in Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan.

In Rahim Yar Khan, surgeons at Sheikh Zayed Medical College and Hospital successfully removed a partially formed fetus from the chest of a five-year-old boy, in one of the rarest congenital conditions known as fetus in fetu.
The child, named Rehan, had been struggling with persistent breathing problems, chest infections, cough, and fevers since he was 18 days old, but the underlying cause was not identified for years.

A recent CT scan finally revealed the presence of an internal mass near his heart and major blood vessels, prompting surgical intervention.

The surgery was led by Dr Sultan Mahmood Owaisi, a thoracic surgeon, and was described as extremely delicate because the mass was so close to vital structures. The removed mass was a malformed twin, not a tumor, that had developed partly with a spine, hair, teeth and other organs, but lacked a head and could not survive.

After surgery, Rehanโ€™s condition was reported as stable and improving, and he is being cared for in the hospitalโ€™s thoracic ward. Doctors say cases like this are extremely rare worldwide, especially when the parasitic fetus is located in the chest rather than the abdomen.

What makes this case special
โ€ข Fetus in fetu is a congenital twin anomaly that happens early in embryonic development.
โ€ข One twin becomes enclosed inside the other instead of developing independently.
โ€ข Most cases are found in the abdomen; chest location is very unusual.
โ€ข It is often undiagnosed until later in childhood unless imaging is done earlier.

This is an extraordinary example of a rare clinical condition and a successful surgical outcome from a local hospital in Pakistan.
