I’m back in the country where it all started (on vacation). Costa Rica was the country where I did my first solo travel. I became obsessed and would go back 3 to 4 times a year. Back then, moving out of the US wasn’t even on my radar. Reflecting on my first solo travel experience in Costa Rica, the memories flood back as I recently revisited this breathtaking country. I have been getting a ton of DMs about moving to Portugal. Honestly, I can’t answer them all and still have a job so I’ll be going live this Sunday to answer your questions and answers live.
But here’s the thing. I’m doing it on Zoom. There will not be a recording. I want to be able to be as honest as possible and publicly on YouTube is going to cause me to to be a little censored.
I honestly believe that as a foreigner it’s imperative that you show respect for the country you are in and the people in it.
Sometimes foreigners say things or behave in a way that can be deemed as disrespectful or ungrateful or laced with colonialism or entitlement. And I think it is super important to be conscious of that.
But I also want people to be aware of certain things that may make their transition abroad easier or harder. So join me if you can.

Many of you have been asking about more Portuguese classes. I’m happy to announce that we have another European Portuguese class starting in just 12 days on Feb.9th. Your instructor will be Inês and she specializes in helping English native speakers transition into European Portuguese. Only 20 (we have 17 spots left) students are admitted into the class and this will be the last Portuguese class offered until October. If you are looking for a way to build community, make new friends and learn Portuguese, these classes are ideal. It’s important to know that this course is a 12 week intensive live and recorded class with 2 hours of guided instruction and 1 hour of study hall a week. Because we are working with students from various time zones, the time of the class will be determined once we close the registration on Feb. 9th. The goal is to get you to be able to communicate and feel more confidents when speaking Portuguese, especially if you are moving to Portugal. Interested?
