Our Next guest on the series in one of the top flyers here in North Belfast. David & his Daughter Maddie Mcelhone. David has a long history in the sport alongside his father and other family members that owned and raced pigeons, David was basically bred into the stock lofts and racing lofts as a young boy. When i first met David & Maddie there work ethic blew me away when we talk about work eat sleep pigeons.

David now gets to participate in the sport alongside his daughter Maddie who took a real interest after the Lockdowns a few years back. It seems now theres a fight to see who can make it to the lofts first in the mornings 🤣

David has had some fantastic results inc topping the Open within the NIPA and the Ulster Fed. scoring extremely well out of France. when it goes to having the ammunition from race one to the last race in France. David has took a deep dive in selecting only the best bloodlines to compete and compete at the top level...

We thank David and Maddie for a opportunity to sit down in the episode and hear there ways round there system and how things are done here in there on back garden lofts.

Just a update for folks maybe waiting on a video from ourselfs, we unfortunately are missing the first 2 races for the 2025 young bird season, we have run into some sort of viral respiratory issue ...... Me or Dad have never experienced before, we are on the up with them we think so hopefully attend next week race all fingers crossed

Lost that many night sleep im not sure what day or month it is 🤣

The 2024 Season Done And Dust

First I'd like to add my thanks to a few people. First of all thanks to some of our great friends is supplying us with our super section of stock. Stevie Goulding and Stevie Milner, Mick Betts, Gary Dodds, Jeff Greenaway, Cosmin Tales, Greg Large, Christy & Keith Brenann. Without the supply of quality pigeons then we wouldn't get to far. So thank you men! Another thanks to Frederick Wolf and the team of Rohnfried for supplying us with there Products to keep the birds healthy throught the Season! Was a massive benefit to the pigeons. To everyone involved in running the organisations the combines, the centres for Derbys , national races and to the week to week Club members that helps us all to race our wonderful pigeons week in and week out! And not to forget the people in the background doing the work no-one sees so a massive thank yous from us here!


When I sit and think what really is racing pigeons the 2024 Old Bird Season just showed me exactly what it was! Not only did they smash my expectations but an absolutely joy in my heart to last a lifetime!!! Something in the race season you don't get much time to do is to reflect much as the race day comes round to quick so the preparations start as soon as the pigeons hit the trap.

The youngster season was the other page in the book! With many weeks left scratching heads and trying to work out why so many pigeons where adrift and not only for our own lofts but many round the country! I'm a great believeler that when things go to plan and thing run smooth there is no better sport in the world to watch what you've created in December, your time, hard work and mountains of effort, to watch fly home on a week to week basis to the home! Nothing fills me more with happiness seeing the wings of our beloved feather hero's return!

And not only that! In our partnership I get to do this with my best friend, my hero, the man who nurtured me and made me the man I am today, my father! No man or beast can ever take these memories away! Which leave to to say a massive thanks to my wife! The amount of sacrifice made to this great sport that no-one will ever see I'm entirely greatful!!

So pigeons isn't all about making money to some people it's a lifestyle of which came from many generations before us!

Even now speaking dad we are extremely humbled at the achievements, we also appreciate the efforts of fanciers in and around the country pushing the boundaries with pigeons, always setting standards to chase and achieve.

we set out like alot of people to obtain the best quality we can get. Pigeons is a continuous search for the special pigeons The golden pair, a freak of nature. I remember my dad telling me the great frank tasker told him "Stephen find out what coming to your own lofts weekly and focus on them, then once bring anything new in test them against your own and go from there"
