CharisDEVO: Yesterday, Today, and Forever

Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. — Psalm 147:8 (KJV)

Imagine what your life would look like if you truly believed God’s word. Through Jesus Christ, you have access to the Highest authority, and there is absolutely nothing He cannot do.

A twenty-dollar bill holds the same value whether it is in the hands of a young man or an older one. Its power does not change because of who holds it—the value remains the same.

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. — Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)

Worry fades when you come to the realization that God’s word never fails. The same God who was faithful to Abraham is faithful to you. He has never changed.

When God sends His word, it produces exactly what He intends. He sends His word to heal. He sends His word to deliver. He sends His word to restore.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. — Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)

The same Jesus who met the needs of the poor can meet your needs today. The same Jesus who opened blind eyes can restore your sight. The same Jesus who delivered those oppressed by the devil is still delivering.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. When you allow God’s understanding to govern your heart, every worry and concern will be brought into subjection.

CharisDEVO: The Exceeding Greatness of the Word

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”
— Genesis 15:1 (KJV)

God has never changed a man’s life apart from His word. When God met Abraham, he was childless and full of questions, but God gave him a word that would forever alter the course of his life.

Abraham thought his greatest need was a child, but God saw something far greater. God’s plan was not merely to give him a son, but to make him the father of many nations. What Abraham perceived as the problem was only the doorway to a much larger purpose.

God’s rewards are always great because they exceed our expectations and stretch far beyond our wildest imagination.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
— Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)

Your challenge may not be childlessness like Abraham’s. It may be something entirely different—but the message remains the same: Jesus is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine.

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
— John 10:10 (KJV)

There is nothing greater than living the abundant life. Abundant life is a life of fulfillment. You can possess all the finest things this world has to offer and still be empty, but anyone who holds fast to the words of Jesus will experience the hand of God at work.

Stop focusing on your present condition. Choose to believe what God has spoken, because God rewards those who believe His word.
But without faith it is impossible to please him…
— Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

CharisDEVO: We Are One Body

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling.” — Ephesians 4:4 (KJV)

God’s desire is to see a Church that is unified in truth. Though we may come from different Christian backgrounds and traditions, there are foundational truths that bind us together as the body of Christ.

Truths such as sin being sin, and the unwavering confession that Jesus Christ is Lord. We are living in the last days, and time is running out. Now more than ever, we must focus on edifying, comforting, and exhorting the Church (1 Corinthians 14:3).

“For the body is not one member, but many.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:14 (KJV)

You don’t wash your hands and ignore your feet. When one part of the body is sick, we seek healing because the health of one part affects the whole body.

The hand is just as important as the neck, the legs, the toes, and the feet. In the same way, every believer matters. Jesus calls us to unity, to encourage one another to pursue righteousness and holiness.

“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.” — 1 Timothy 6:11 (KJV)

Paul exhorted Timothy to pursue what pleases God. We are not called to tear people down, but to teach the truth with meekness and gentleness of heart.

We are called to win souls, not arguments.
Let us focus on building up the body of Christ, not dismantling it.

CharisDEVO: Empowered to Live for Christ

She said, “No man, Lord.” And Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”
— John 8:11 (KJV)

“Go and sin no more” were the words Jesus spoke to the woman caught in the very act of adultery. If we were God, many of us would not be here today—because human nature is quick to condemn, label, and write people off.

The Pharisees hoped Jesus would condemn this woman, but He didn’t. Instead, Jesus extended forgiveness, removed condemnation, and then empowered her to walk away from a life of sin. Grace came first, and transformation followed.

When was the last time you extended grace to someone who sinned against you or hurt you? When was the last time you proclaimed the love of God before addressing a person’s sins and shortcomings?

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
— Romans 6:1–2 (KJV)

God hates sin, but He loves the sinner—and He desires change. Yet true change does not come through condemnation. It comes through the preaching of God’s love, goodness, and grace, revealed in our Lord Jesus Christ.

God calls us to live for Him alone, but we cannot do this in our own strength. We need His grace and power to resist the devil and overcome the deeds of the flesh.

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
— Galatians 6:1 (KJV)

Be quick to restore others with gentleness. Preach the grace, love, and goodness of God—while also declaring the consequences of living in sin—because God desires that all men be saved.

CharisDEVO: Thank the Father Always

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

We could never thank God enough. He has done marvelous things—things far beyond what our words can fully express.

When you don’t know what to say or what to do in God’s presence, begin with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is God’s will for us, and He desires that it become a daily posture of our hearts.

When Jesus had the little boy’s loaves and fish in His hands, He gave thanks to the Father. The miracle did not happen before thanksgiving—it happened after Jesus gave thanks. Gratitude preceded multiplication.

“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
— Ephesians 5:20

As our three days of fasting and prayer come to an end, remain thankful—even if some of the things you prayed for did not happen as expected. Give Jesus glory and honor in every circumstance. Faith is not shaken by delay when thanksgiving remains.

As we step into 2024, continue to ask the Lord for guidance. Thank Him for bringing you through another year, and remain steadfast in faith, trusting His timing and purpose.

“And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will glorify them, and they shall not be small.” — Jeremiah 30:19

Let praise and thanksgiving proceed from us all the days of our lives. Let thanksgiving be our banner in 2024.
Let us enter His courts with praise and thanksgiving.

CharisDEVO: Show Us Your Ways

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

God never intended for us to function apart from Him. He fashioned us with a dependence on Himself. We bear His image, and because of that, we are designed to lean on Him for guidance, wisdom, and direction.

Jesus said that true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (John 4:23–24). True worshipers do not merely sing songs—they rely on God for their sustenance and direction in life.

Choosing not to rely on God is rooted in pride, and we know what pride produces. As we step forward into a new season, may the Lord guide us in every decision. May the Spirit of truth lead us through every challenge that lies ahead.

“Let me hear of Your steadfast love in the morning, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.” — Psalm 143:8

Develop a habit of spending intentional, quality time with God each day—no matter how busy life becomes. We cannot expect clear guidance from God if we are not consistently spending time with Him.

As you spend time in His presence, He will reveal His heart to you. He will begin to replace your personal agendas with heaven’s purpose and plan for your life.

We are often skilled at designing our own paths, but what God has planned for us is far better than anything we could create on our own.

Give God your best and most valuable time, and you will never regret it. He is jealous for our hearts—not because He is controlling, but because He knows the distractions of this world cannot give what only He can.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” —Jeremiah 29:11

You may not know every detail of God’s plan for your life, but you can trust the nature of His plans. God’s purpose for you is not harmful, not selfish, and not empty. His plans are filled with hope, direction, and a future worth walking into.

CharisDEVO: No More Idolatry

“Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
— 1 John 5:21

An idol is anything that takes the place of God in our lives. It can be entertainment, celebrities, political figures, sexual immorality, the worship of self or race, sorcery, witchcraft, or anything else that competes with God for our devotion.

Brothers and sisters, God is very serious when it comes to idolatry. Idols hinder us from experiencing God’s best and from walking fully in His purpose for our lives.

“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” — Colossians 3:5

How do you know if something has become an idol? One clear indicator is how much time, attention, and affection it receives. God is a jealous God—not because He is insecure, but because He loves us too much to share our hearts with anything that will ultimately destroy us.

These last days are crucial, and it is imperative that we keep our vessels clean. Allow the Word of God to rule your spirit, soul, and body as we await the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I once shared in a devotional how I spent an unhealthy amount of time focusing on my gifts rather than serving the One who gave them. God does not want us to elevate possessions, talents, or success above intimacy with Him.

Remove anything from your life that does not glorify God. Surround yourself with godly people who will sharpen you and encourage you to serve the living God wholeheartedly.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7

The devil does not flee simply because we rebuke him; he flees when we submit to God. When Satan tempted Jesus and departed, Scripture tells us he left Him “for a season.” He returned again and again—but he never found any foothold.

“I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” — John 14:30

Satan had nothing in Jesus because there was no compromise, no divided loyalty, and no hidden idol. May we also grow into that same posture of total surrender, becoming all that God has designed us to be.

I’ll leave you with this encouragement:

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” — James 4:10

Do not seek validation from people. Do not rely on the world for wisdom. Do not trust in yourself. Put your trust fully in Jesus—and He will lift you up in due season.

CharisDEVO: A Savior Is Born

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6

The faithfulness and integrity of God’s Word are beautifully revealed in the birth of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Satan believed that the rebellion in the Garden marked the end of mankind—but he underestimated the redemptive plan of God.

God had already prepared a greater purpose: to rescue humanity from the kingdom of darkness and translate us into the kingdom of His dear Son, Jesus.

“And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins.” — Matthew 1:21

God Himself provided the seed that brought forth Yeshua. Had Jesus come through the seed of a fallen man and woman, He would not have qualified as the spotless sacrifice because of the corruption introduced in the Garden. But Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit—holy, blameless, and set apart.

Jesus Christ, the last Adam, was God’s perfect provision for humanity. No wonder Scripture declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Jesus did not come with His own agenda. He came to fulfill the will of the Father.

“Then said I, ‘Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of Me) to do Your will, O God.’” — Hebrews 10:7

Whenever God sets His redemptive plan in motion, the enemy attempts to corrupt it through deception and violence. Herod sought to locate the Child through the wise men, but God warned them in a dream not to return to him. Enraged, Herod ordered the massacre of all male children two years old and under—a tragic attempt to stop God’s purpose.

Yet God’s plan could not be thwarted.

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”— Luke 2:52

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We are forever grateful for Jesus—the only begotten Son of God—who has redeemed us, adopted us, and now calls us brothers and sisters.

CharisDEVO: The Way to Cleansing

“How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” — Psalm 119:9

There are three dimensions to the human experience: spirit, soul, and body. Our spirit is saved at the new birth, our soul is transformed through the renewing of the mind, and our body will be glorified when Jesus returns.

The soul is the realm where past trauma can resurface. It is where thoughts of guilt, shame, rejection, abandonment, fear, double-mindedness, and unbelief often reside—even in the life of a believer.

God’s perfect will is to cleanse and transform our soul by His Word so that we can live above the emotional and mental patterns of this world.

This transformation begins with believing His Word. True cleansing of the soul can only be accomplished through the Word of God. Many search for temporary solutions to dull the pain, but these substitutes never produce lasting freedom.

Jesus spoke His words so that we would believe them and hold fast to them. When God’s Word is truly believed, the mind begins to experience His peace—the peace that surpasses all understanding.

It is important to recognize that this cleansing work takes place in the realm of the soul. Another word often used for this process is consecration—a setting apart unto God through truth.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” — Romans 12:2

The world operates by a system of thinking that keeps people in bondage. But the Word of God has the power to cleanse the soul from every form of contamination. The enemy uses our past and our shortcomings to produce guilt and shame, but Jesus gives us His Word to restore, renew, and cleanse us completely.

CharisDEVO: Believe in the Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus is the greatest name given to the Church. Without the name of Jesus, we would have no authority over the works of Satan.

The name of Jesus is the only name the enemy truly recognizes, because Jesus alone gave His body as a sacrifice on the cross. His name carries the weight of victory, redemption, and divine authority.

When we use the name of Jesus in faith, we are acknowledging the love of God toward humanity and the finished work of Christ.

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” — Proverbs 18:10

A strong tower represents refuge, protection, and safety from enemies. The name of Jesus has been given to us as a place of refuge and as a weapon to dispel the forces of darkness that seek to enslave humanity.

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” — John 14:13

We ask the Father in the name of Jesus because that name grants us access. The name of Jesus is our advocate before the Father. When we speak the name of Jesus in faith, it captures heaven’s attention.

When you believe in the name of Jesus, you will begin to see the results of your prayers.

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” — Philippians 2:10

There is no part of creation that does not respond to the name of Jesus. Everything—seen and unseen, living and non-living—recognizes His authority.

Many have experienced moments of fear or distress that immediately ceased when the name of Jesus was spoken. The reason is simple: the name of Jesus subdues the enemy and establishes peace where chaos once ruled.
