West Azerbaijan
We continue the column about South Azerbaijan
For many, the problems faced by Azerbaijanis in this province are unknown. The main problem is the drying up of Lake Urmia. The Iranian government, intentionally or unknowingly, is doing nothing to restore the Lake. There is also a strategy for relocating Kurds from neighboring provinces of Iraq to this province. This policy has been going on since the days of Saddam Hussein.
There is a high probability of forced relocation of the Turkic population from this province due to the drying out of the lake and the formation of salt storms. Many Turkic activists object to the policy of drying up the lake. For the last 10 years, the central government of Iran has appointed an ethnic Kurd as the head of the province.
The reasons for this attitude towards the Turkic population of this province are the first to destroy the natural geographical proximity to Turkey and the Turkic population. Weaken the position of the Turks in Iran.
If you look at maps on the Internet, you will see how on all these maps the western regions of this province are indicated as Kurdish. In fact, the share of the Kurdish population in the West Azerbaijan province is only 13.2%.
Unfortunately, propaganda on the Internet changes many people’s understanding of the world.
Fatali Khan Afshar of Urmiy was once very close to the unification of Azerbaijan but was stopped by various intrigues on the part of other Khans of Azerbaijan.
