I’ve been taking some time to think carefully about where things stand with Second Signal, and I want to be honest about my apprehension right now.
The channel is still here. Nothing is being deleted at this moment, and I am still considering the best way forward. But the channel has been affected by a YouTube monetization decision, and that has forced me to look hard at what continuing this work on the platform actually means.
One of the hardest parts of this is that YouTube can still place ads on videos like these without sharing that revenue with the channel. So while the archive remains active and the videos continue to reach viewers, the financial side of sustaining this kind of work becomes much more difficult and one sided.
That is part of why archive channels sometimes disappear. It is not always because the interest is gone. Sometimes it is because the time, research, sourcing, restoration, editing, storage, and overall effort involved stop being sustainable under the way the platform handles monetization.
I care deeply about this archive and about preserving these broadcasts in a way that feels respectful, accessible, and worthwhile. That mission has not changed. What I am trying to figure out now is whether there is a realistic path for Second Signal to continue in a stable way.
So I want to ask honestly:
Would you be open to optional direct support for the channel if it helped keep the archive alive and future uploads possible?
I’d also genuinely like to hear your thoughts on what you would want to see moving forward.
I will have more to say very soon in a short video, but I wanted to speak plainly here first.
Thank you for being here and for caring about this work.
Some recent YouTube policy and monetization decisions affecting Second Signal have made a short update necessary, and I’ll be posting a video soon to explain where things stand and how the channel moves forward from here.
The mission of the channel is still intact. I just want to address this directly and clearly, because many of you have been asking for more archival content and I think this moment deserves a proper explanation.
Thank you to everyone who subscribed this year! The holidays have been busy, but the signal is still live. Coming up soon you can still expect * A full Hurricane Andrew archival compilation * A deep dive Housing Market Crash compilation * A special 2003 Iraq Invasion VHS transfer compilation, straight from tape to timeline.
Thank you for spending time with the channel, watching, commenting, and helping keep history in motion.
Happy holidays from Second Signal History Doesn’t Fade...It Transmits.
I wanted to give everyone a quick heads-up on where the next big Second Signal upload is at. Hurricane Andrew is a massive story with a mountain of surviving footage, and it’s taking a little time to do it justice. I’ve got about half of the archive fully processed already, and the remaining segments are picked and queued up for enhancement.
It’s a big one, but it’s absolutely still on the way. Just wanted you all to know it hasn’t gone quiet… it’s just a beast behind the scenes. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Still working on the Hurricane Andrew Archive. It's one of the more complicated compilations, as it was important to locate reports that would be exclusive to this archive, limit reusing well known footage, or when used, increasing the quality. The video begins August 17th 1992 when Andrew was forming as a Tropical Storm, all the way to major landfall in Florida, as well as on to Louisiana. The final video may range close to 6 or 8 hours. All footage has been enhanced up to 1080p HD.
As we head into the next couple of months, I’m lining up a few big additions to the archive, including two viewer-suggested broadcasts:
Hurricane Andrew (1992) | Restored network coverage and aftermath reports.
The 2008 Stock Market Collapse | The financial crisis as it unfolded on live television.
Alongside those, I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes looks into how the archive is cultivated, plus new Relic Spotlight segments that dive into the artifacts and documents connected to these moments in history.
And in the next week, keep an eye out for a series of shorts marking the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, featuring rare news reports!
*New Archive Upload* October 7, 2023 — The First Hours
Today marks three days and two years since the Hamas attacks of October 7th. This special upload presents the unfolding coverage exactly as it aired! Israel, Al Jazeera English, BBC, and U.S. broadcasts in real time.
3 hours 50 minutes of news broadcasts. Every frame is original broadcast footage.

The signal has been stronger than expected lately!!
9/11, Saddam 1979, Waco, May 3, 1999… thank you for watching deeply, adding timestamps, and preserving these moments with me.
Hurricane Andrew is next. Full archival broadcast. As it happened.
Relic Spotlight #2 is also on the way. This one ties directly into 9/11 and the artifacts behind the footage.
