Quietly Curating Culture & Stories
Angela Sim is an Australia based researcher of Asian heritage and culture. She uses her platform as a media content creator to explore areas such as heritage, culture, lion dance, folk religion, peranakan culture and sunset industries to name a few.
As a frequent traveller to Singapore, she has past and upcoming collaborations with local organisations, authors and individuals who lead these fields.
Angela is a Singapore native and promotes the nation as a cultural destination. Singapore presents visitors with a complex offering of history told through craftsmanship, arts, spirituality, architecture and ethnic traditions. Whilst some trades and traditions are at risk of losing relavance, a vanguard has emerged from today's generation of Singaporeans seeking to deploy the best of a multi layered history into the fields of design, architecture, gastronomy and arts. Angela looks to celebrate these individuals for heritage preservation and legacy.
Hakka Moi Quietly Curating Culture & Stories

Hakka Moi Quietly Curating Culture & Stories
This year, Hakka Moi became more than a name.
It became a return.
A return to stories once spoken softly, to hands that worked without applause, to traditions carried not for recognition but for survival. I spent this year listening — to elders, to archives, to silences — and learning that what endures is often what was never meant to be seen.
There were moments of doubt, of wondering if these fragments still mattered in a world moving so quickly forward. But each story uncovered, each craft remembered, affirmed the same truth: heritage does not disappear — it waits for someone to notice.
I am deeply grateful to the custodians, artists, practitioners, masters and families who trusted me with their histories. To those who opened their homes, their workshops, their troupe halls, their memories, and their time — thank you for reminding me that culture lives through generosity.
To everyone who read, shared, watched, and paused long enough to care — your presence gave these stories breath. This work is never done alone.
As the year closes, I carry forward not achievements, but responsibility. To continue documenting, remembering, and honouring what is at risk of being forgotten — before it is lost.
With gratitude,
Angela Sim.

In my own small, quiet way, this is how I give back to the country, Singapore, that shaped me.
And when viewers from YouTube reach out — sharing their memories, encouragement, and stories — it reminds me that these old crafts and traditions still matter.
If these fragments of our past can find new life in my adopted home here in Australia, and even spark connection across oceans and screens, then my heart is already full.
It’s my way of keeping us close despite the distance, of letting our heritage breathe a little longer in the world. 🙏

Are you able to guess what is the weight of the head of the fire dragon and how many joss incense sticks can we stick onto the frame?
I even got the chance to experience the piercing of one joss stick into the head of the dragon!!

My very own #虎將軍 from Taiwan 🇹🇼thanks to friend 哥文虎家 @tigerwenng 感恩 感恩 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
A tiger god (虎爺) that is actually allowed to sit on the table, instead of being confined to the smallest niche under it.
This tiger god is in fact a general (將軍, a position in the pantheon of Chinese deities) and even has its own altar in the temple dedicated to it (虎爺殿). 🐯🐯🐯

After Death, a Tiger’s Skin Remains; a Man Leaves Only His Name 🐯
Legend has it that locality gods like the earth god, controlled the tiger spirit. Therefore, an image of a tiger is sometimes seen next to, or under, the image of a locality god in his shrine.
The tiger spirit is an assistant to the locality god in protecting the people and livestock in the area under his jurisdiction. It is also believed that the tiger spirit possesses the powers of inviting wealth and prosperity, expelling plagues and epidemics, and suppressing demons and negative forces.
Of great importance in Asian myth and culture, the Tiger is one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. Also in various art, the tiger is depicted as an earth symbol and equal rival of the dragon - the two representing matter and spirit respectively. The chinese character hu虎 for tiger, sounds the same as 护 hù meaning ‘protect’ and so a tiger is a powerful protection motif. 🐯
