The boys and I drove over 600 miles (round trip!) to Virginia to secure the future of our farm’s milk supply. The “Family Bull” LOL. The new patriach of our farm. As a husband and father, it’s my job to bing home the bacon… or in this case, the bull. Only the best for my brood. This time, I’m brining home the New Patriarch, a bull whose hardy, grassfed and meat/milk genetics will define our herd for years to come. This trip full of excitement traveling, meeting new people, seeing our bull for the first time, figuring out how to load him and brining him home! I'll be honest, I mess up with my kids—a lot. I lose patience, I get distracted, and I'm not always the example I want to be, but all I truly want is to be a good dad. That's why I took my sons and a dozen other dads on a Mighty Man Camp trip to the North Carolina mountains, hoping to unlock the "magic formula" for fatherhood from the family of my late mentor—but the answer didn't come in the way I planned, and what I learned about being fully present, being persistent with the relationship, and praying for them is far more straightforward and powerful than any ten-step program. To find out how these three secrets came to me (and to watch us conquer frigid cold plunges and a rigorous hike with a five-year-old!), watch my newest video.

I’ve been reflecting on our 10-year homestead vlogging journey—it’s been amazing building this community, but lately, views have dipped 25% in just 90 days, and we’re not alone. From algorithm shifts to burnout filming daily chores like milking cows, big changes are coming. I’m pivoting to quality over quantity: fewer vids, but packed with hooks, stories, and payoffs that’ll hook you hard. This isn’t the end—it’s evolution to keep things thriving. I just dropped a brand new video where we tackle a HUGE item on the to-do list: planting a full year's worth of our own garlic!
It was a race against the cold weather—and the chickens—but we got our record 100 feet of garlic planted in one day.
If you love the idea of having a year-round supply of homegrown, nutrient-dense garlic for your kitchen, this video is for you.
Here’s what you’ll gain when you watch:
The Fastest Way to Plant: See the quick, efficient method we use to plant large quantities of garlic in a single afternoon (shout-out to the Never Sync gritter!).
A Year of Flavor & Health: Learn how we get our year's supply of garlic, perfect for making those nutrient-rich soups we rely on.
Homesteading Secrets: Get the simple, but powerful, two-word motto that helps us stay on track with our most significant projects (even when we think it's "too late"!).
A year ago, Hurricane Helene blindsided us out of nowhere.
Thirty-two inches of rain in just two days—unthinkable!
These North Carolina mountains aren’t supposed to get hurricanes… until they do.
We lost our driveway, high tunnel, turkeys, bridge, two acres of pasture, bees, and so much more. We kept wondering, “How many years is this setting us back?” Fast-forward to today, and it’s hard not to reflect. We felt utterly paralyzed at first—unsure what to rebuild, where to even begin, and with zero budget for disaster recovery. ;)
But we rolled up our sleeves and got to work with whatever we had, one bucketload at a time. Looking back, I’m blown away by our progress. I bet you’ll be stunned by the devastation and inspired by the epic comeback…
One year ago we were sideswiped by Hurricane Helene. Looking back it’s amazing what we were able to rebuild in just a year of girding up our loins and putting things back together (one bucket load at a time). New video dropping soon (hopefully Tuesday).
I'm sorry, but there will be no video today. I've lost (my other) Dad. This one was my "spiritual" dad. My original farm, family, and life coach. I'm making a special video about what's going on and have seen the first draft, but it still needs a fair amount of adjustment. Should post Monday or Tuesday. The challenge of manhood will be worth the wait. In the meantime, if you'd be interested in more topics from me (related to manhood), check this out: tinyurl.com/3bekwtfd
I created this 30 min documentary about Jonah and I Bikepacking 100 miles through the wilderness. In the film I explore hard work, the father/son relationship and how good things get passed down generations. So it’s more than an adventure film but not about homesteading per se. I’m wondering where this film belongs?
