Mammoth Leadership Sciences

Can leaders learn how to harness the evolutionary foundations of human behavior to create better business outcomes? How much do evolutionary forces shape our own individual behaviors, decisions, and group dynamics? In each episode, multinational executive leader and author Nicolas Pokorny shares practical, research-based strategies, and stories about how to align humans around common goals and lead them effectively through ever-changing markets and times.

The Mammoth in the Room is an engaging listen of interest to leaders who wish to better lead their people by understanding the evolutionary foundations of human behavior and how to harness them.

Today, we launch, I say thank you

Today is the day. The passion project led by a vision born in the last millennium will finally make daylight on August 15th, 2024. A podcast about leadership and its scientific aspects including my own research since the early 1990s. This became finally possible because, as empty nesters of four kids, late nights and weekends somehow amazingly opened up over the last years which allowed for additional productivity and research.

There are a couple of folks I need to thank to help to pull this through. First and foremost, I need to thank Luis Ryan Diaz Diaz, CEO of Top Ten Podcasts, who believed in the potential of this vision and agreed to embark on this journey together. He and his team are the ones who actually put all of this in motion and practice. I might know my science, experiences, leadership failures and successes, and might have the passion for being on stage, presenting (the camera loves me 😊, I keep telling myself), telling stories, sharing and have a conversation about hashtag#leadership to make us all better, but I had (and still have, to be completely honest) no idea how the apple - podcasts, the you-tubes and Spotifys of the world particularly and social media in general works. After all, I’m an analogue kid – most of the time during my decades of parenthood fighting the digital world (and my kids) with all my might. Obviously I lost and based on the strategic choice of ā€œIf you can’t beat them, join themā€ I partnered with this amazing Top Ten Podcast team to join the digital world. So, thank you again Luis Ryan Diaz, James, Ariel Jennings, Jaymie, Michel (the wizard) and whoever is part of this amazing team.

Then, also a big shout out to Kat Dunn and her team who build the webpage - and so much more to come!

And then a super big thanks to my wonderful partner in crime and wife Madeleine who kept me honest and focused and is juggling so much of the creative stuff in the lead up to the launch.

One of our daughters asked me if I’m scared launching this and the answer is ā€œHell YES, of course…lolā€ but that’s the fun in it, isn’t it? Embarking on something you have never done and not knowing what it will be like. That’s what entrepreneurship is about. And if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not worth being dreamed of anyway, right?

Does it have to be perfect from the get-go? No, of course not! How can it be? I hope I’ll learn something over the next 6 months and will be better than today. And then – as I did at the beginning of the third chapter of my book where I talk about Implementation – I need to quote Bruce Lee, who famously said once: ā€œIf you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it doneā€.

So, let’s get this going - 100% quick, 70% right and the rest we fix later! Tomorrow, we launch. ONWARDS!
