Crows and Magpies hate each other...
Here we have Crows attacking and kiIIing a Magpie fledgling.. and also an adult Crow Fighting with an adult Magpie - who manages to break free at the end, after a second Crow joins in with both actively trying to kiII it.
Notice how the Crow has hold of the adult Magpies face with one claw.. a tactic usually used by raptors to immobilise their prey, but here being utilised by a predatory Crow.

The Crows who've controlled my Balcony area since i moved here are;

2020 Zeus (m) and Ebony (f) (Winter)
2021 Zeus (m) and Ebony (f) successfully reared 4 Fledglings - 3 m and 1 f (Deux)
2022 Zeus (m) and Ebony (f) successfully reared 1 Fledgling (Spooky) before both sadly passing away, probably due to heatwave and drought. Female Deux from the previous year took over parenting of Spooky and they became inseparable, eventually becoming a mated pair in 2023 despite being siblings.. which is very rare but not unheard of.
2023 Spooky (m) and Deux (f) successfully reared 1 Fledgling (m) (Junior)
2024 Spooky (m) and Deux (f) successfully reared 1 Fledgling (m) (Biggy)
2025 Spooky (m) and Deux (f) successfully reared 2 Fledglings (m) (The Twins)

As of 2025 Spooky is 3yo and Deux is 4yo.

Rooster Family UPDATE!


The 'Rooster' Crow Family featured in many Vids from the 'Park Crows' location (Search on my channel for 'Rooster.') One of, possibly my favourite Crow family were driven from territorial park many months ago by the aggression of the 'North Pair' - Especially the Male who was actively trying to kill the fledglings from the Rooster family.

The family totally disappeared, for a long time i searched everywhere nearby to see where they had gone, but couldn't find them :/

I had kinda given up, when one day about a month ago, Ma and Pa Rooster suddenly landed in front of me as i was on the way to the park - Closely followed by three youngsters from the previous year.

They have relocated and settled on a small housing estate next to the park where i've been feeding them every day.

How do Crows show affection to humans?

Like most birds, Corvids are monogamous, and the core unit is therefore the mated pair. This pair bond is typically for life, and the pair remains together throughout the year.

How do Crows show love?

They're sociable birds, and a mated pair will often mate for life, staying together at all seasons. Love is often shown by allopreening, in which they groom each other's feathers - especially around the head and neck, in spots that an individual can't reach with its own beak.

Great site for checking out which seeds and nuts provide the best nutrients for Crows and other Birds (and Squirrels.) As well as all other foods;

The latest Seed mix i use for ground feeding is 50% of Sunflower Seed Kernels (raw) and 50% Whole Wheat Grain (raw.)
The Sunflower Seed Kernels provide a large amount of fat and protein whilst the Whole Wheat adds lots of complex carbohydrates and some more protein.

My advice is to stop using all social media (except YT 😉) and make a concerted effort to make friends with your local Crows. If you look, you'll notice 98% of your local area is divided up into territories controlled by dominant pairs and their family/offspring. However, the other 2% should include a couple of communal locations where multiple Crows congregate. Find them, and visit them daily at the same time of day, dropping Crow friendly food behind you. At first they will fly off and not come near you - but if you maintain - you'll be surprised at what happens. Nature is wonderful, and far more fulfilling than you might expect. Crows are amazingly intelligent, loyal and fascinating 🤜🤛
