The Skaldic Bard

I'm a Catholic British/Irish medieval enthusiast who likes to play instruments and write and sing songs about times gone by, often accompanied by my beloved wife.

I write songs in a variety of ancient languages about the glorious past of our forebears. If you like what you hear and would like to learn a bit of history through song, please consider subscribing!

If you'd like to support my work, you can do so here: www.buymeacoffee.com/theskaldicbard. Thank you for your kindness.

God bless!

Lady Skald and I have been travelling around glorious Italy and San Marino recently. I thought I'd share some pictures from the trip :-)

We also found a little chapel with beautiful acoustics in San Marino, so we decided to stop and record a little something. If you'd like to hear us do a live impromptu rendition of Da Pacem Domine, you can check it out here:

I'll be back to making videos around mid November, so stay tuned! God bless.

Today is a good day! I'm delighted to report that Brothers of the North Sea is my first original song to reach over a million views on YouTube :-) As it happens, it's also my favourite song I've written.

This is a milestone that I never would have expected when I started scribbling out melodies and lyrics, so I'd like to thank you all very much for listening and for supporting the channel. It means a lot. May God bless you all

Fellow Catholic and non-Catholic Christians alike, please pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, who departed this world today.

May the Lord have mercy on him, and may he rest in peace.

My friends,

I present here a project that the Great ‪@faryafaraji‬ and I have been working on for many months. It has been a labour of love to produce, and we're both very proud of the end result. My lovely wife, here introduced as Lady Skald (as one of you donned her in a comment a while back), also joins us in parts.

Please do me the honour of watching/listening to this saga about the life, delights and trials of a Varangian Guardsman, from humble beginnings in the North, to glory, honour and tribulations in the South.

I'm sure you're all already subscribed to Farya, but if you're not, please do subscribe to him.

Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for listening.

God bless!

Wīġmenn of the Skaldic Fyrd!

Remember to go out and hike from time to time. It's excellent for mind, body and soul. Breathe the free air!

The one and only ‪@faryafaraji‬ has created a real work of art in this extremely authentic and creative symphonic retelling of the story of the First Crusade -- I'm greatly honoured to have been featured with an adaptation of my Latin Palästinalied.

I'm sure the vast majority of people who follow my channel are likely subscribed to Farya too, but for anyone who hasn't checked out the symphony yet, please do so - you'll love it, without a doubt.

10,000 subscribers!

I find it quite amazing to think of so many people pressing that subscribe button. I'd like to thank all of you for your support since I started this channel about a year ago.

As a throwback of sorts, here's the first original song I uploaded. It actually came about through my wife finding my old lyre which I'd left in a cupboard for a good while. She handed it to me and encouraged me to play it again.

I played a tune which I'd casually worked on before and decided I'd write a song to the melody in Old Norse. I came up with a tale of a fictional Varangian guard who fell in love in Constantinople while serving the Emperor. The song I have linked here was the result, and this was the start of my channel.

I'm currently travelling in my ancestral homeland of Ireland, but I'll be back to making some new content when I'm done.

God bless all of you and, once again, thank you for 10,000 subs.

Onward!

Oh dear - just noticed that I uploaded an earlier version of my new song that had some uncorrected errors in the subtitles. I'll reupload shortly! Cheers fellas.
