Eternal Joy is our 5th studio album, but in many ways it feels like our first. We’ve never made the same album twice, and this one is certainly no exception. The fact that we were even able to finish this project after so many starts and stops was a feat in and of itself. But we’re back on the horse and ready to ride baby.
There’s so much art and music in the world about sadness, depression, existential dread, etc. Our catalogue of work can definitely be categorized as such. And it’s a good thing for anyone who’s going through it. At its best it can be a place of comfort and solidarity. But at its worst it can be an echo chamber, or even sensationalize those feelings. Going into this record I was very conscious of the fact that there really isn’t a lot of music about what it’s like to actively try to climb out of a place like that. And so Eternal Joy was born. A journey through the rabbit holes of self-help and spiritualism, and sifting through each one to filter the bullshit from the truth.
Call it Motherfolk 2, call it whatever you want. We’re calling it EJOY. Out this Friday.
