Is joy a choice or is joy inevitable? The lead single on my upcoming EP started out as a song I wrote called “choose joy.” I’ll never forget sitting in that co-write when one of my cowriters looked at me and asked if that statement was actually true. “Do we choose joy or is it a gift from God? Do we choose to grow spiritual fruit or is it a result of abiding in the Vine?” Co-writes go deep like that sometimes.
I remember sitting there with my jaw hanging open a little because, yes, I’d always thought of it as a choice or at least something that I had to work at and then maybe the Lord would help along.
And maybe that was why I felt so tired.
Maybe the choice we make is choosing Jesus and after that joy follows? In that way, maybe snow is a little like that, too. It comes for a while but it will inevitably melt when touched by the Sun. ☀️

“Spend My Life” has been out for a month!! It’s been a whirlwind since the song released but three things Jesus has been showing me about spending my life with Him?
1.) Spending time with Christ-centered community is always worth it!
2.) I’m reminded a life spent with Jesus takes perseverance.
3.) As much time as we need to spend time with Jesus, He wants to spend even more with us!

A little story behind the song, this one came out of my very first co-write down in south Nashville. I remember being so nervous, but excited too because I knew I was about to write a song with two other guys that loved the Lord. At the heart of this song is this idea of a trade. What would Jesus give us in exchange for surrendering all of our worries and fears to Him? The answer: everything. If we’re really willing to give Jesus all the pieces of ourselves, He will turn our pain to praise and our worry to worship (go listen to verse 2!!)
So, let this be an invitation. Let this be an anthem. Let’s go spend our lives with Jesus!!
