Many English learners pronounce -ED the same way every time…
but in real English, -ED has three different sounds 👀

That’s why words like liked, wanted, and called may look similar, but don’t sound the same at all.

In this lesson, you’ll learn the only 3 rules you need to pronounce -ED endings correctly:
• when -ED sounds like /ɪd/
• when it sounds like /t/
• and when it sounds like /d/

You’ll also learn how to feel the difference using voicing, the vibration in your throat that tells you which sound to use.

We also clear up some common exceptions that confuse even advanced learners:
• naked – not wearing clothes
• wicked – morally bad or playful
• crooked – not straight
• learned (adjective) – highly educated
• blessed (adjective) – grateful or lucky

Once you understand these patterns, -ED endings stop being guesswork and start sounding clear, confident, and natural.

Comment below, I'd love to hear your goals 👇

A brand new year is the perfect moment to refresh your pronunciation habits and decide what you want to improve in 2026.
For many learners, small mistakes like dropping final consonants, mixing up vowel length, or stressing every word equally, can make English sound unclear even when the grammar is perfect.

And what's the good news?
You don't need to fix everything at once. Focusing on just one pronunciation habit can make a huge difference to your clarity and confidence.

What's actually holding most learners back from clear pronunciation?

It's usually not vocabulary or grammar. But it's a few very common pronunciation mistakes that affect stress, rhythm, and clarity, often without you realising it.

In fast conversations, stressing one different word can completely change the meaning of a sentence. That’s why many learners feel misunderstood, even when their grammar and vocabulary are correct.

Actually, English stress is powerful.
When you don’t control it, your message can sound unclear, hesitant, or different from what you intended.

If you want clearer communication in 2026, mastering stress and intonation is essential.
Start with my FREE Pronunciation Pack!
It shows you how stress really works in natural English, with clear examples you can practise right away.

English feels much faster at Christmas parties, family gatherings, and group conversations 🎄
But why does this happen?
Is it because fluent and native speakers suddenly talk faster during the holidays…
or is something else going on?

Actually, it's not about speed, it's about how English reduces in real speech.

Words like "and", "to", "for", "of" often shrink into weak forms, blend into the next word, or almost disappear. When this happens, English sounds fast, even though it isn't.
Once you learn to expect these reductions, your listening improves instantly and conversations stop feeling overwhelming.

🧠 Quick pronunciation quiz!

How many syllables do fluent English speakers usually pronounce in the word "interesting"?

It looks longer… but natural English often reduces syllables in everyday speech. That's why even advanced learners sometimes understand the word, but don't recognise it when they hear it.

This kind of reduction is one of the biggest reasons English sounds fast and unclear in real conversations.

Want to check your answer and train your ear for patterns like this?
The FREE Pronunciation Pack shows you how real English is actually pronounced, not how it's written.
