The Journey of Grief
Dear God, we pray that You would give light to us that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. Guide our feet into the way of thy peace.
"Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears."
~Psalm 39:12a

The Journey of Grief
The Crushing Weight of Grief
Am I denying my faith in God when I ask the inevitable question?
Why Me? Why my child?
I spend my days and nights trying to figure out why did this happen.
I search the scriptures for answers.
I begin to find comfort in the Psalms.
I begin to feel the love of God as I weep and shed rivers of tears.
I am learning to turn to Him quickly when the waves of emotions sweep over me.
When I look to Him for help, He comforts me and some of the crushing weight of grief begins to lift off of me.

The Journey of Grief
"And after a while you just stop. You stop watering your plants. You stop watching netflix. You stop reading. You stop replying to your friends as fast as you used to. You stop buying yourself nice things. You stop putting an effort into how you look. You stop taking care of yourself like you used to. You stop sleeping. You stop eating healthy foods. You stop petting your dog. You stop socializing.
You stop with everything. You find yourself sitting in your room for hours on end, without doing a single thing. Days feel like years. And you wonder how long you can keep doing this. Sometimes I wish I didn't remember that day my son was taken from me." ~Jessica Hill, A Grieving Mom

The Journey of Grief
"There comes a time when many of the people we love grow weary of our grief. Some, even impatient. They may not even realise it. It’s as if their capacity to support us had a use by date. Even though they do not speak it. We sense the shift. We see it, we feel it. "- Louise Rees

The Journey of Grief
The world does not want our real face, the one soaked in grief. So we give them the mask. The face they are used to seeing before we lost our child.

The Journey of Grief
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

The Journey of Grief
The epidemic of gun violence in our world today, will only bring about more tears, heartache and pain for mothers of the children lost to gun violence.
A mother grieving the death of her child is a journey that she usually travels alone. The despair and hopelessness that she carries in her soul last longer than anyone in her circle of family and friends can comprehend. Her grief is her grief because her child was her child.
It takes courage to "sit with her grief" and feel all the emotions that engulf her soul and come out on the other side, still in her right mind.
"In the darkest of tunnels, with no exit in sight, it is my hope that healing will arrive one day." ~LaVerne Byrd
