Leopard Eye!

I drew this leopard's eye from the African wildlife practice journal. The combination of blues and teals in the eye and the warmer tones of the fur really make it pop!

Arn't Dalmation eyes so fun to draw? I did this little study using pan pastels and coloured pencils and it took me about an hour to complete. It was honestly so much fun to do a little no-pressure study like this. Usually i have to complete my commissions perfectly every time but, a bit of practice without the pressure is just what I needed to feel a bit more creative. Let me know what you think!

Start small, and let your confidence grow!

Confidence does not come from waiting until your art is perfect, or trying to start huge, complicated pieces.

It grows each time you sit down and try something.

So today, create something small, simple, and low-pressure.

Practice without the pressure. Make art fun again.

Have you ever drawn a beagle eye? This was my first and one of the first times I have used coloured pencil on pastel matt paper. I must admit I like the way it layers, but I don't like that it takes so long to fill the tooth. It was helpful to just try this little study without the pressure of drawing the whole dog or worrying that I might mess up. I am not a patient person. lol The image on the left is the reference, and the one on the right is my drawing. I would love to know what you think!

You do not need to finish a full drawing today.

One eye, one pet nose, one colour blend, or one tiny study still counts.

That is exactly what my Practice Studies Journals are for: simple, low-pressure practice you can start anytime.

I have been practicing dog eyes lately. Not many are as colourful, so I really wanted to practice that without the pressure of doing an entire finished piece. I also really enjoyed trying to pick out all the different blues and purples in the fur around the eye. The image on the left is the reference image, and the one on the right is my drawing. I would love to know what you think!!
P.S. The blue on the bottom was my daughter helping me. 😃
