Recently, I decided to write a preprint examining the work of Brown and Hullender. In their publications, they attempt to smuggle Christian theology into scientific discourse under the guise of legitimate science. In particular, their paper “Biological Evolution Requires an Emergent, Self-Organizing Principle” astonishingly succeeded in passing peer review despite effectively reviving vitalism — a doctrine that has been scientifically defunct for nearly a century. Vitalism posits that life depends on special, non-physical laws, yet modern science has shown that living systems emerge naturally from the same physical and chemical principles governing inanimate matter.
