Hello everyone. As you see Labour Day in Cantonese is 勞動節 instead of 勞工節, which sounds encouraging working. The day somehow reminds me to work harder instead of fighting for labour rights😂

勞動(lou4 dung6) to work
勞工(lou4 gung1) labour

Learn Languages With Joy

Hello, everyone! I’m going to reorganise the videos I made as I changed the channel name from Learn Cantonese With Joy to Learn Languages With Joy. I’ll still focus on teaching Cantonese while occasionally share some learning materials of other languages. New videos will be updated in between re-made videos uploads.

At the same time I’m constructing a Patreon page, with which I wish I can provide you a more comprehensive learning experience and make it a financial source to sustain this channel.

Please feel free to contact me on Instagram to let me know what kinds of materials you are lacking.

As I want to re-organised the materials on YouTube first, on Patreon you may find now I am only moving Spotify resources of Cantonese for German speakers for its being able to be set up more quickily.

I have many ideas on worksheets for you too, it just takes time to work on loads of them😂

I’ll share you my progress on setting up the Patreon Page from time to time. Please stay tuned.

If you are interested, you can already join me to become a free member with the link on my profile page now. On Patreon searching “Learn Languages with Joy” can also find me.

That’s it for the updates. Have a nice day!

Hello, everyone. Many stores or supermarkets in Hong Kong nowadays have a point systems to reward loyal customers. Shopkeepers may ask this question when you pay:

youtube.com/shorts/aXj9VEqGH7...

One Mandarin speaking netizen complained that the convenience store shopkeeper said the English F-word to her. As convenience store shopkeepers normally speak only almost the same expressions and they won’t say English to a Chinese speaker out of blue, some Hong Kong netizens guessed the shopkeeper may have said the above Cantonese expression. I wish this short could help avoid any further misunderstanding if this expression could be a cause.

Hello, everyone. Today’s Halloween. At night, many people will dress up as vampires, ghosts, Frankenstein, etc. and celebrate at Lan Kwai Fong, which is located at Central.

There are no holidays from 31st October to 2 November in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong students could have learnt the origins of All Hallows’ Eve, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day from English textbooks, it’s possible that many Hongkongers of older generations have no idea of these three days.

Here is how to pronounce these three days in Cantonese:

For visitors coming to Hong Kong:

Is there Sunlight Saving Time in Hong Kong now? The quick answer is NO.

But there was from 1941 to 1976 and in 1979.

And some schools still have a so-called Summer Time time-table nowadays. Students finishes school earlier at about 1 p.m. instead of 3-4 p.m.

Although many people in Europe would like to cancel Sunlight Saving Time, I find it lovely to wake up one hour later in Winter Time there. If there is Summer Saving Time at your region, I’m sure your Cantonese speaking friends have the same feeling after hear your situation:

What do you think? Do you like the existences of Daylight Saving Time and Winter Time?
