Welcome to Oma’s Musings.

I’m Kathy, a wife, mom, and Oma who’s learning that slowing down can be one of life’s greatest gifts. After years of raising a family and working full time, I’ve entered a quieter season where home, faith, and intentional living matter more than ever.

This channel is a collection of my musings from this season of life. You’ll find videos about decluttering, downsizing, homemaking, simple from scratch living, crafting with my Cricut, and creating a home that feels peaceful and purposeful. I also share faith stories, encouragement for women, and honest conversations about navigating the senior and empty nest years.

Nothing here is about doing things perfectly. It’s about learning, trying new things, letting go of what no longer serves us, and trusting God as we go.

If you’re longing for a slower pace, a simpler home, and encouragement for this season of life, you’re in the right place.

Oma’s Musings

This morning, as I was skimming through YouTube, a video popped up that I started watching—and I loved the advice this senior woman shared. I thought I’d pass it along to you:
* Don’t fear aging. Every gray hair and wrinkle means you’ve lived.
* Enjoy your life. Make the most of each day.
* Don’t try to cover it up. Embrace “it is what it is.”
* Stay positive. Choose a hopeful outlook.
* Care for your health and skin. Stay out of the sun and keep up simple routines.
* No pressure. You don’t have to color your hair or wear makeup unless you want to.
* Mascara helps. Lashes can lighten with age, and a little touch can make you feel seen.
* Keep learning. Every day and every person can teach you something.
* Treasure family and community. Being near loved ones can help you feel whole.
* When life hands you lemons… Make lemonade, keep going, and keep glowing.
* It only gets better. Aging can be a fresh beginning if you put your heart into it.
* Be happy, be healthy. Take care of yourself and enjoy being alive.

Oma’s Musings

Hi friends! 💛

If you’ve been encouraged by my videos here on Oma’s Musings—where we talk about faith, simplicity, and intentional living in our senior years—I wanted to share something close to my heart…

I’ve created a new YouTube channel called The Redeemed Mess.

It’s a space where I dive even deeper into life’s messiness—grief, waiting, healing, identity, hope, and how Jesus redeems every part of our story. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s all about the grace of God in the middle of the hard.

Whether you’re going through something heavy, feel stuck in a season of waiting, or just need a little soul encouragement—this new channel is for you.

👉 I’d love for you to come subscribe, watch, and share: youtube.com/@TheRedeemedMess

Let’s walk through the mess together and find God’s goodness in the middle of it.

With love and hope,
Kathy 🌸

Rainy day vibes = perfect excuse to slow down or finally tackle those little chores you've been putting off.

You know the ones…
That junk drawer.
The sock basket.
Wiping down the baseboards.
Filing those papers you’ve been shuffling for months.

Rainy days can feel heavy, but they’re also cozy little nudges from above to do the quiet things—the things that don’t take much brainpower but do bring a little peace.

Light a candle. Turn on some music or a podcast. And just pick ONE thing.
You’ll be amazed how good it feels to finally check it off your list.

Let’s redeem this gloomy weather and do something future-you will thank you for.
What’s the rainy day chore you're finally going to tackle?

Stop Buying. Start Rediscovering.
Before you click add to cart again… pause.
Sometimes the very thing we're searching for is already in our home. We just forget. We lose sight of the beauty, the function, and the stories behind what we already have.
Today, I want to challenge you—before you shop, stop.
👉 Walk around your house.
👉 Open that drawer.
👉 Look on that shelf.
👉 Dig into that closet.
You may just find:
A candle you loved but never lit
A basket that could tidy up a corner
A picture frame waiting to display new memories
A shirt you forgot you felt beautiful in
A book that blessed you once and could bless you again
Sometimes it's not about more—it’s about refreshing what we already have.
Repurposing. Rearranging. Reminding ourselves that contentment often lives right under our noses.
Let’s practice gratitude by seeing our homes with fresh eyes. ✨
You don’t need more stuff. You just need a gentle reminder of what’s already yours.

Oma’s Musings

Sometimes we pray with all our hearts… and the heartbreak still comes.

I’ve been praying every morning—for protection, for peace, for no more tragedy. I even prayed over every room of my daughter’s house. But now… she’s been diagnosed with cancer.

I’m not mad at God, but I am heartbroken. Disappointed. And yet, I trust Him.

Even Jesus prayed, “Take this cup from me.” He understands what it feels like to wrestle with God’s will. And when I don’t have the words, the Holy Spirit intercedes for me.

Sometimes my tears are the prayer.
Psalm 51:17 says, “A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”

If you’re struggling today, know this: He treasures your tears. You don’t have to hide them. 💔

Oma’s Musings

When we face the unknown, anxiety can creep in — and with it comes confusion.
Our minds spiral with “what ifs,” we question our decisions, doubt our direction, and even forget things we normally hold dear.
But God gently reminds us in 1 Corinthians 14:33,
"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace."
That’s why, even in the whirlwind, we have to pause and ground ourselves in faith — trusting that God is working, even when we can’t see it.
He is not the author of chaos.
He is steady. Faithful. Present.
And His peace will meet us right in the middle of the mess. 🕊️

Oma’s Musings

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quieter on YouTube lately… and today, I want to share why.

Our family has been walking through an unexpected and very emotional journey. My precious daughter has been diagnosed with cancer, and as you can imagine, it’s turned our world upside down.

This is one of those seasons where everything else fades into the background, and being fully present for her has become my main focus. I know many of you understand what it means to carry the weight of worry while still trying to be strong—for them and for yourself.

As a mama, it's been so hard not to step in and fix everything. But this journey has reminded me of something powerful: when our children grow up, our role changes. We love just as fiercely, but we have to learn how to love from a distance... to let go, and to trust God with what we can’t control.

That’s exactly what I talk about in my newest podcast episode: 🎧 When Mama Bear Has to Step Back
🟡 Listen here: open.spotify.com/episode/1YPwpTyYdUDScNM0FUkUUl?si…

If you’ve ever felt helpless watching a grown child go through something hard, this episode is for you. It’s raw, real, and rooted in faith—and I pray it brings comfort and encouragement to your heart like it did mine while recording it.

Thank you for your continued love, support, and prayers. They mean the world to me and my family. 💛 I’ll be back with more videos when I’m able—but for now, I’m trusting God in the silence, and sharing when I can.

With love and gratitude,
Kathy (Oma)

Oma’s Musings

When we go through deep disappointment, trauma, or heartbreak—especially something as overwhelming as a cancer diagnosis—it’s easy to feel abandoned. We might even be tempted to question God, or worse, pull away from Him in our pain.

But here’s the truth, friend: God is not the one to turn away from. He is the One to run to.

When the world feels upside down…
When the news is devastating…
When the future is uncertain…

God remains steady. Unshaken. Faithful.

He doesn’t just watch from afar—He walks right through the fire with us. He understands every tear, every fear, and every weary prayer whispered in the dark.

It’s in these very moments that we need His presence the most. Because:

He gives peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7).

He heals broken hearts and binds up wounds (Psalm 147:3).

He promises to guide us with wisdom and love (James 1:5).

He never leaves or forsakes us—even here (Deuteronomy 31:6).

And He has a plan to redeem even this for good (Romans 8:28).

So if your heart is shattered and your strength is gone, don't turn away. Cling tighter. Cry out to Him. Let your questions come—but bring them to the One who can actually carry the weight of them.

He’s not afraid of our grief.
He’s not offended by our sorrow.
He’s a safe place, even in the storm.

There’s no shame in needing Him more than ever right now. That’s what He longs for—that we would run into His arms and let Him carry us.

In the middle of your hardest days, He is still good. Still God. Still enough.
