If anyone had told me 2 weeks ago that I would land in Medellín and want to spend the rest of my life here, I would’ve laughed. Check out my most recent vid about why I moved to Colombia! https://youtu.be/2hXyng8FirI
Or read on for the 30 second anecdote : )
Only 2 weeks ago, I didn’t know much about Colombia beyond what it had been famous for in the last 30 years.. I thought I’d be living and working remotely for a month, and then move on to the next best digital nomad city.
Upon my arrival, as my taxi twisted and turned into the mountainous regions of Medellín, I felt an overwhelming certainty that this was a city I’ve always longed for.
Once one of the most dangerous cities in the world, Medellín is now a global success story. In 2013 Medellín was awarded the World’s Most Innovative City Award, beating out New York and Tel Aviv. So, why do I love it here so much?
Where to even start. The people, the food, the whole environment. This city is called La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera, the City of Eternal Spring. It’s a perfect 25 C year-round. There are tropical rains and storms, but because the city is situated in a valley, the storms are beautiful to watch from our balcony with a view. You know you’re from the West Coast California when lightning is fascinating and exciting to watch.
Which leads to another thing I love about this city. The views. I am so lucky to wake up with the mountains and the city skyline right in front of me. I have been to 56 countries, and this city has quickly moved to the top of my list of the coolest, most beautiful cities I’ve had the privilege of seeing. Especially at nighttime when the valley lights up.
Medellín is a city situated in what feels like a living-breathing jungle. When you’re here, you never really feel like you need to “escape the city” for some nature time. It’s pretty incredible that you get the best of both worlds.
Have you had the opportunity to visit Medellín? What did you think?

Jobs You Can Do from Anywhere in the World
[full vid of the step-by-step process to becoming a digital nomad on my channel!]

I’ve been working online while traveling the world for 5 years. If the digital nomad lifestyle entices you, here are a few quick lessons in remote work.
1. Develop a skill set: Find online courses, some are free, some are paid. Or you can get a formal education, which will take much longer and a lot more money. Just remember that remote companies hire for a variety of positions, just like a traditional 9-5 job hires for a variety of positions.
2. Land a job with a remote company: There were already a ton of companies before the pandemic that operated fully remote. Meaning, they don’t have an office and they have a distributed team that works from various places around the world.
3. Freelance: Start freelancing on the side of your 9-5 and build it up. By the time you are ready to quit your 9-5, you already have somewhat of a consistent stream of income. Or at least you have a skillset you can really start to develop.
4. Build a personal brand with multiple streams of income: This requires a lot of patience, time and effort. Think over 10,000 hours. Once you build up a personal brand, you become an authority on a certain topic. People look at you as that person that knows everything about that topic.
5. Start Your Own Business: This is the most challenging thing to get started since it often requires time or money resources to get off the ground. This could be a product, a service, whatever it is that you like. It’s a balance between where your skills/passions lie and what problems you want to solve for other people.
