I’ve avoided "Headless" setups for smaller clients because the maintenance usually makes me want to weep. But I just ran a test build using Phantom WP + Astro.
The goal: Keep the WordPress backend (for the client) but ship static HTML (for the speed).
It's genuinely fast. No heavy page builders, just clean code connecting GitHub to Vercel.

What does a page builder need to do according to you?
I am looking for the most complete section to build so I can test out different page builders with basically everything we need. Below is a summary of what I think are needed at least.
Any other ideas?
• Dynamic Data (CPT/API): Query loops for posts/products, ACF/JetEngine integration, real-time previews—pulls live CPTs without bloat.
• Reusability: Components/templates with variations (toggles, global classes), nestable blocks for headers/CTAs—update once, reuse everywhere.
• Flexibility: Custom CSS/JS editors, advanced selectors (like sibling tricks), Modern CSS/HTML usage.
• Performance/SEO: Clean code, semantic HTML, lightweight on database queries, and code execution time—no builder cruft killing Lighthouse scores.
• Responsiveness: Unlimited breakpoints, fluid grids—test on devices instantly.
• Extras: Popup builders, animations (transforms/motion), team collab—plus AI content gen for quick demos.
