Hello there!
This is a channel that will cover all things science, anything from Zoology, Paleontology and even astronomy!
I hope that with these videos, I can inspire new generations of people to be interested and engaged in these topics and that people both young and old can get something out of them.
If I ever say something in one of my videos that is inaccurate or false, be sure to correct me.

What we know (officially) of Prehistoric Planet is now out!
Before anyone asks, l'll be covering some of the leaked content and images for the series enough in a second video that will be out in the next few days.
Until then, feel free to listen to some of the ramblings and ideas I have about the series. :)

While I work on a video to cover the recent news of Nanotyrannus being recognised as a valid genus, I am also hard at work on getting a Halloween special done.
Stay tuned for some crazy deep sea creatures!

Well, waking up this morning sure was eventful.
To cut a long story short, Nanotyrannus is almost certainly valid, as the extremely well-preserved Dueling Dinosaurs specimen has been found through detailed examination of growth rings, spinal fusion data and developmental anatomy to be a mature animal around 20 years old and physically mature when they died.

This means that Nanotyrannus, the dubious and debated genus that has attracted some of the most heated debate of any paleontology topic in the last few decades has as of today been resolved, which is a sobering thought. Jane, another specimen thought to have been a juvenile t.rex has also been found to be in the genus Nanotyrannus, but in a new species seperate from N.lancensis, being N.lethaeus.

Tyrannosaur research, and everything we know about tyrannosaurs, from their phylogeny, range, feeding habits, ontogeny and behaviour has been flipped on its head, and I look forward to discussing this topic in detail in a video soon.

The wonderful art is by Anthony Hutchings.

Voting closes for New Zealand Bird of the Year at 5 PM NZT!
Vote here with this link here: www.birdoftheyear.org.nz/

You also don't have to be from NZ to do so, and you can choose the top 5 birds that you want to win!
I would have made a video endorsing the wrybill, but I've been exceptionally busy with other work, and time sadly slipped by, which did suck.

Next year though, I intend to do as much as I can to make sure they win for the first time!
Or, maybe, just maybe, with your support, they can get there this time around!
These are the birds I ranked.
Make sure you also confirm your vote with the confirmation email that is sent out as well! :)

My video on Tyrannosaur growth is now done!
34 minutes of me discussing their embryonic and hatchling stages, and all the way through their lanky, sometimes controversial juvenile stages and onto the bulky adult forms we all know and love.
I hope you all enjoy! :)

To say I was astounded at this news is nothing short of an understatement.
It was the first thing I saw when I woke up two days ago, and I was hyped up for the whole rest of the day (to an extent I still am now!)
I'll be putting out a brief video on what we can potentially expect based on the information we currently know, so sit tight for that and some other upcoming content.
After the main animation studios that brought Prehistoric Planet to life (Jellyfish Pictures and MPC) shut up shop, it's excellent that Framestore has picked up the mantle.
November 26th really can't come soon enough!

To all of my Aotearoa New Zealand viewers, if you want to spend a good hour watching birds and also contributing to science, then this is for you!
If you don't know already, there is a survey ran by Manaaki Whenua (Landcare Research) which
Citizen science projects for these are deeply helpful in understanding our birdlife and their population dynamics, and they reveal a great many insights into how they're doing.
E.g, Tūī increasing by 207% in Canterbury, and Dunnocks/Starling/House sparrow numbers showing shallow declines over the last 10 years nationally of around 14-18%.

I'll share more examples when I get the chance, but there are a great many that show in many areas where some bird species are increasing or declining at rapid rates, and that allows us to know for instance that some of our native/endemic garden birds may be increasing in number because of increased feeder presence or higher-rates of native plantings through correlative analysis, etc.

If you want to be involved, click the link I've pinned in the comments section to find out more!
Basically, you just need to find a good spot in your garden or nearby park and count what you hear/see for an hour.
Also, very importantly, if you see two Blackbirds for example, you tally down two. If you see a third one later but they're by themselves, you leave your tally at two (you want your tally to reflect the number of birds you see at any ONE time) :)

You may have noticed a shift in my content as of late (youtube shorts-wise) as I've been posting a lot of paleontology/zoology-themed memes featuring the filmography of Neil Breen. This isn't entirely out of nowhere, as I watched his whole filmography recently, and I've never laughed so hard at a series of films in my life.

There were so many moments I came up with jokes relevant to the channel that I think all of you natural sciences people are also sure to get a laugh out of it!
So, for the next good while on the channel, I'll be putting out a daily Neil Breen paleomeme!
I put the first three out from June 11th-June 13th, and am now aiming to continue the streak I've started on June 24th. It will be interesting to see how it all goes!

28,056 views have been garnered so far in totality from the 5 I've posted so far, so while that is fairly small all things considered, what I've known from my time on YT is that videos can sometimes take off at random times, and this is especially true for shorts. I know too that there is a certain cohort of my audience who watch my longer-form content more and vice versa with shorts, so I don't want to alienate either groups. Because of that, even though I'm putting these out frequently, it does not mean at all that longer-form content as been sidelined at all. The only thing that's changed is that there will be more consistent uploads from another part of the channel to tide people over with some humour while the larger videos are being worked on. :)

Stay tuned for the rest of June, and especially for July, as Shark Week is once again coming up, and I have much planned for that!
