June 14th is named the World Blood Donor Day in honor of Nobel Prize winner Karl Landsteiner, the discoverer of the ABO blood grouping system & the Rhesus factor. It is to bring increased awareness to the fact that every second, somebody in the world needs blood to save their life due to various complications from accidents, surgeries, anemia, pregnancy, etc. This supply is mainly provided by volunteers and knowing the importance of this act will hopefully continue to motivate us all to keep donating!
