Welcome to my painting and drawing journey! My current goal is to get better at drawing from imagination. I'm fairly good at drawing and painting from reference, but to really create and illustrate awesome characters, in crazy poses, in weird perspectives and put them into scenes, all from imagination, is something I still struggle with. So for the next few years, I'm going to try to remedy that!

If you want to watch me grow, stumble, fall and get back up again as I learn, be sure to subscribe!

Cat and mouse standoff. Ballpoint pen & markers.

Haha, I had no idea where this was going when I started. I just knew I wanted to draw a cat doing something, but that was it. The mouse character was an afterthought.

I designed a knight based on an onion. Went with the first design that came to mind, drew a few poses and jumped into rendering. #characterdesign #sketchbook #noai #traditionalart #pencilsketch

A third iteration of Battle Angel Alita as an exercise in drawing from imagination. I limited myself to one tiny reference image from the manga, in a different pose, to keep the original design in my periphery.

Had some fun drawing Battle Angel Alita as an exercise in drawing from imagination. I limited myself to one tiny reference image from the manga, in a different pose, and basically stole the design for the most part. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel here. #traditionalart

Hey everybody, I just wanted to let you know that I won't be doing any more sketchbook tour videos this year. For the past couple of months, I was a bit too focused on volume for the sake of it, instead of depth.

I'm really hunkering down on improving my artwork in silence and without distraction. My days consist of study - recall - correct - repeat.

Next to that, I'm taking my time to make one kickass illustration.

"The Heist"
Traditional drawing on Canson XL 90g Sketch paper . Original on A3 format.

I started over about four times. At first it was too stiff looking, because I strictly adhered to perspective guides.

Then, with different colored pencils I quickly sketched the rat, the goblin and the background. By doing this quickly, you capture the energy. Even if things aren't accurate, the drawing looks a hundred times more dynamic and alive.

Then I went to work with an H, HB, B and a 2B. The background didn't quite get off the ground, lol.

Overall, it was a good exercise!

I've studied and drawn a lot of frogs in the past few days. Here are a few of them. I'm getting more and more comfortable drawing from imagination. The ease and speed at which I draw these rough sketches is a very nice development. I'm not focused on style at this point. #sketches #drawingfromimagination
