As of September 23, 2025, 156 out of 193 United Nations member states recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign nation.
This represents about 80% of UN members, including recent recognitions in September 2025 from countries such as Britain, Canada, Australia, Portugal, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and Andorra.
These followed earlier waves, like those in 2024 (e.g., Spain, Ireland, Norway) and further additions in 2025, building on the 82 countries that recognized it shortly after the 1988 declaration of independence.
The Holy See (Vatican) also recognizes it but isn't a UN member.
